archie speed walks to his car, shoulders hunched up to his ears in fear. thank God some kids marched through the door of the bookstore, or archie would have never been able to escape that creepy large man's stare and...weapon. guess mr. scary man had a line he didn't cross when it came to kids. but archie was very much not a kid so running to the safety of his coworkers until the next couple hours of his shift was how he dealt with that until the man was nowhere to be seen.
he considered driving to the valesquez' house to warn them but the night and his hunched shoulders could only last so long before he would convince himself he was in immediate imminent danger and would start screaming endlessly. he quickly entered his car and drove home in the night, committed to telling them in the morning. hopefully the man wouldn't be anywhere near him.

"I can't believe we're actually here," hoseok says in awe, still leaning back in the back seat of dané's car. "after days of chaos we're here to complete our part of the mission."
"i wonder what the other members are doing right now," jin responds.
"hopefully better than us. it took longer to get here than we thought. it's practically night. jayden's probably worried sick," dané tsks.
hoseok cursed at himself for cringing at the name of dané's boyfriend. he had nothing personal against the man, but the thought of him put hoseok in a greater hole of guilt for the way he longed for even a slight smile from dané in his direction.
"we should go now, hopefully this carl james isn't already knocked out for the night," dané says, gathering her things and turning off the engine. she makes sure the boys have their hoodies on before opening the door and getting out with them.
the lawn was almost the same as when mia and jeongguk had visited with abandoned children's toys and overgrown grass. but there was something about the house to hoseok that it felt emptier than what he would have imagined would have happened to carl james.
