Chapter Nine- Base Plans

------------- Desert Kingdom ~ Haven's Cottage -------------

"WHAT!?" Shelby cried, looking at Haven, "W-Why did mother never tell me....?" She asks is complete confusion.

"You see... your grandfather, King Wilder, he hated me because I was born with powers. He never was a believer in magic when he was younger, but as he got older, and saw magic for the first time, he began to believe in it, but he vowed that if any of his children were born with magical abilities, he would abandon them. He saw magic as dangerous and he wasn't going to risk anything in his kingdom" Haven told the 17-year-old Queen.

Shelby took a deep breath before nodding slowly for her to continue.

"When me and your mother were born, he didn't realise I had magic, at least not for a few years. My powers became prominent when Faven and I turned 3. My mother, Queen Elinore, and my father, King Wilder, had an argument. He wanted to send me away, but my mother, she was defending me. Your mother and I were very close growing up, same with our older brother, Patrick, your uncle, but when Faven and I turned 10, our father sent me away to live with the most powerful magic user in the Kingdom. He had gotten my new adoptive mother to erase the memory of me from Faven and Patrick's minds, but she didn't want them to lose me forever, so she merely removed the memory of us being siblings, and made it look like we were just best friends" Haven explains.

"W-Wait... so, what else did my mother forget?" Shelby asks, beginning to shake a little.

"Your mother had a few memories wiped before you were born, but not enough to make life difficult" Haven sighs, "But it's not my place to tell you..." she says.

Shelby was starstruck. "S-So... do I have more cousins?" she asks softly.

Haven nods, "I have 2 kids, but they're both sleeping right now. Their names are Quig and Chloe" she says.

She then goes on to explain what powers she had. "You see, I have a lot of powers, some of which I only learned a couple years ago. I know all of my powers now though. I have nature magic, light and dark magic, water and fire magic's, life magics, healing, and a couple others" she says.

Something clicks to Shelby though, "Wait, did you say Life magic?" she asks.

Haven nods, "Yes, I have the ability to bring people back to life".

"Then you could have saved my mother..." Shelby realises, "You COULD HAVE brought my mother AND father back to life!" she says, her eyes narrowing.

"S-Shelby, listen, I couldn't bring her back" Haven says, trying to calm her niece down.

"WHY?!" Shelby shouts, beginning to get frustrated. Even though people say she's the most patient person in the kingdom, they wouldn't be able to blame her for trying to get answers out of someone for something like this.

Haven sucks in a breath, "I just couldn't, it wouldn't have been allowed".

Shelby places her hands over her face as Shadow lays her chin in her lap. Haven could see small tears beginning to fall down Shelby's pale cheeks. She felt horrible for making Shelby cry.

"I'm l-leaving! Come on Shadow" Shelby says, standing up and running to the door. "Shelby!" Haven calls after her, but Shelby doesn't answer as she runs down the stairs.

Shelby jumps into the pond and wades her way through, tears still falling down her cheeks. Shelby couldn't believe what she had just heard. Haven could of brought her parents back, but for some reason, she wasn't allowed? Shelby didn't believe Haven for one second. Why should she? She only just met the lady.

Getting to the other side of the pond, Shelby begins sprinting back to the guard who is waiting for her, Shadow following next to her.

The guard heard her running towards him and looked up, seeing that the Queen was crying. His instincts kicked in and he jumped down to go to her. "Queen Shelby, what happened?" he asks, placing his armoured hands on her small shoulders.
