The next day...
Marina: Daddy.
Marina comes into the living room.
You: Yes.
Marina: I can't find my shoes.
You: Where did you have them last?
Marina: I don't know.
You: Well, you need to find them. We need to leave.
Clem: Look downstairs.
Marina: Ok.
She hurries off. You can hear her running down the stairs.
Clem: Are you ready?
You: No. I'd just rather not go, to be honest. I hate doing this.
Clem: Brooklyn needs you there.
You: I know.
Clem: And Stanley would've loved to know you were there. He didn't show a lot, but we all knew he looked up to you.
You: I know.
Clem: I just feel awful about it.
She slouches back on the couch.
Clem: I've known Violet for so long. I can't believe she's gone.
You: Yeah.
Clem: I'm going to miss her.
You: Me too.
It was a very rough night last night. When you got back everyone started bombarding you with questions. You didn't let them talk to Brooklyn. Ruby had to clean your face up and stitch a few places. It's covered in scratches and bruises.
Clementine was shaken up. She heard the explosions and feared the worst. She was right to. It was bad over there. You broke the news to her and then it piled on top of what she was already feeling. You didn't get much sleep, trying to comfort her. And Marina seemed oblivious to the fact that you were in danger at all. That's something good at least. Her bright smile when you got home made you feel a lot better.
Clem: How's your arm?
You look over to her and then down at your robot arm. You start to squeeze the fingers to make a fist. It stutters as it goes and then stops about halfway, refusing to go on.
You: I'm sure it'll sort itself out.
Clem: Hopefully.
Marina: I can't find them.
Marina has her head peaked around the corner.
You: They're around here somewhere.
Marina: Can you come help me look?
You: No, you can find them. Check by the door, by your room, in your room-
Marina: I have.
You: Then check places you spend a lot of time in.
Marina: Where?
You: I don't know.
Marina: Ugh!
She leaves to go look for them again.
Clem: Why don't you just go help her?
You: She knows where they are.
Clem: Yeah, she clearly does.
You: She ran in here last night, and sat on the couch. She took her shoes off, and left them right here.
