You made it to the town with no bumps. Marina has calmed down a little bit, and seems to be kind of warming up to Clementine.

You: This house.

You stop and gesture to a house with Marina still in your arms.

Clem: Why this one?

You: It has a basement.

Clem: A basement is a death trap.

You: Not if you know it is.

Clem: Still a death trap.

You: It'll be fine. I've gotten out of some pretty tight binds.

You're not convincing her.

You: Clem, trust me.

Clementine squints at you.

Clem: Fine, but if it starts to get bad, we leave.

You: Alright, deal.

You walk up the overgrown sidewalk. The grass is tall an unkept on both sides of you, coming to about your knee.

Clem: How long are we going to stay here?

You: Few days maybe.

Clem: I think a day will be fine.

You stop at the door, and turn around.

You: Let's hold this argument for a minute.

You set Marina down on the ground. She instantly tries to grab you again.

You: Hey.

You grab her shoulders, push her a little bit away from you, and hold her in place.

You: I need to make sure the house is safe. You need to stay out here just in case.

Marina: I want to come with you.

You smile at her.

You: You need to stay with Clem.

Marina: But I'm strong.

She rolls up her sleeves and flexes. It's incredibly cute.

You: I can tell, but stay out here.

Marina: I don't want to.

She starts to whine. If she gets to loud she might give away your position to those people looking for you, or the dead.

You: Stop. I said no. I meant no.

Your aggressive tone scares her. Tears start to well up in her eyes.

Marina: I don't want to stay with her.

Clem: Y/N, I'll just go in and check it out.

You bite your lower lip in frustration.

You: Be careful.

Clem: I'll come get you when the coast is clear.

She moves past you and into the house, shutting the door behind her. You look at Marina. She has her head down, and is rubbing her eyes.

You: Come here.

You sit down on the porch in front of the house. You pat beside you, and she gets in your lap.

You: Oh ok.

She looks up at you. Her eyes are red, and a few tears remain on her cheeks.

You: I'm sorry I got mad at you. But you need to listen, ok? If I tell you to do something, it's because it will keep you safe.
