Chapter 20

Cole's POV

Amy, Dan and I were all talking, when Amy brought up the question about babies.

Amy: So Cole, do you and Lili ever think about having children sometime?

That's when I heard the bathroom door open and Lili walked out. I knew she heard everything because the look of fear and sadness was written all over her face. She came over to the rocking chair that I was sitting in, and sat halfway on my lap and half on the chair. She hid her face in my neck and I put my arms around her.

Dan: Lili, what's wrong is everything ok?

Lili: No dad, everything is not ok.

Amy: Why? Is it something we did or said?

Cole: Um I don't know how to put this but..

Lili: I had a miscarriage mom. 2 miscarriages. And I am scared of the thought of trying to have another baby right now.

Amy: Lili, I'm so sorry honey! But we didn't even know. Why didn't you tell us when it happened??

Dan: We are always here for you.

Lili: Mom, Dad believe me when I say we were gonna tell you.

Amy: Why didn't you then?

Lili: Please don't be mad.

Dan: Honey, we are not mad we are just upset. I mean we are your parents after all.

Amy: We thought we would be the first ones you guys would tell.

Lili: Well the first time, we didn't know I was pregnant. And I was so ashamed that I lost a baby that I didn't even know about, and I didn't want to tell anyone. And the second time, we wanted to only tell a few people just in case we had another miscarriage. Which we did. We were gonna tell you guys but we wanted to do it in person. I'm so sorry.(cries)

Cole: Shh shhh it's ok Lils. They aren't mad, it's ok.

Amy: Come here.

Amy and Lili both stood up and embraced each other with a hug.

Amy: Cole, Dan come over here.

They stood up and they all hugged. After a few minutes they all sat down and Lili snuggled into Cole. And eventually fell asleep with her face hidden in his neck.

Cole: Hey Amy can we have a blanket or two please?

Amy: Of course!

Amy got one of their bigger blankets and gave it to Cole. He wrapped most of the blanket around Lili and gave her a quick kiss on the head.

Amy: Hey Cole?

Cole: Yes?

Amy: Thank you for treating Lili well. The last few men she was with treated her like absolute shit. They hurt her.

Cole: Amy, you don't have to thank me. I love Lili with all my heart. And I would never do anything to hurt Lili. I will always protect her.

Dan: Well every time we call her, she always tells us how much she loves you.

Cole: (laughs)

Amy: Well it is getting late, We'll see you guys in the morning.

Cole: Wait. Before you guys go, I have a question.

Dan: Yeah?

Cole: I really want to marry Lili. I mean she is the love of my life and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. So do I have your blessing to marry your daughter?

Amy: Of course!!

Cole: Dan?

Dan: Cole, you know I want my daughter to be happy with the one she loves the most. But if I find out you do anything to her, I will hurt you.

Cole: Dan I would never.

Dan: Ok. Well then Cole, I give you my blessing to marry my daughter.

Cole: Thank you guys so much! It really means a lot.

Amy: No, thank you. All we want is to see Lili happy. And if that means she gets to be with you, then that's all that matters. But if you don't mind we are gonna head to bed now. Goodnight Cole.

Cole: Night.

As Dan and Amy headed upstairs, Cole slowly rocked back and forth in the chair while Lili was peacefully sleeping in his arms. After a while he reclined the chair and then pulled Lili close to him.

"I get to marry you baby girl! I get to spend the rest of my life with you. That's only if you say yes though. And I hope you say yes because I love you so much Lils. Goodnight."

Cole whispered in her ear before kissing her a few times on her head.
