Wei Ying was bouncing around the kitchen waiting for Lan Zhan to come home, hopping from side to side he fetched ingredients for the spiciest chicken he'd ever made; recently, spices have become dull after so long of eating them so he's upping it a notch or two.

Humming, he stirred the pot while continuously checking on the fire and flipping his hair out of the way... he didn't want a repeat of last week... he almost burnt his hair off!

Seeing Wei Ying with fire crawling up his head scared Lan Zhan into getting a chef to teach him how to cook safely as well as adding a barrier between the fire and him. He fearfully clutched Wei Ying so tightly that night that Wei Ying had to coax him to sleep.

(I won't deprive you of the angst and fluff, here is a flashback)

Wei Ying stirred the pot, leaning over it he inhaled a big whiff of the spice before coughing a little, however, at the scent, his mouth watered.

Smiling, he bent to put the fire out, but stopped when he heard the Jingshi doors opening, he smiled, "Lan Zhan!" He cheered, "Welcom- ah!" He started to welcome his husband but stopped upon yelling in shock.

Pulling away from the fire, he winced as his slightly burned fingers twinged yet he desperately slapped his hair to try and stop the fire spreading.

Lan Zhan frowned, his eyes widening in alarm. Dropping his sword, he rushed into the kitchen and gasped at the scene. He was at Wei Ying's side in an instant and held a cloth over the fire, settling it instantly until it was gone.

When the fire had vanished, he took a deep breath to calm his pounding heart before yanking Wei Ying into his arms, he hugged him tightly, "Are you okay?" He asked, his voice shaky.

Wei Ying blinked, the shock of the situation fading before he smiled, "Of course I'm okay, my heroic husband Lan-er-gege was there to save me..." He grinned, his heart paining a little.

Normally at his teasing Lan Zhan would immediately kiss his lips and ravish his neck, but the grip on him tightened, almost afraid to let go. Wei Ying's heart ached, he couldn't begin to imagine how terrifying these situations are for Lan Zhan given the past.

Wei Ying hummed, rubbing Lan Zhan's back he kissed his cheek and stayed in his embrace until Lan Zhan's heart stopped doing somersaults. After a minute or two, Lan Zhan finally pulled back and poured water on the fire before checking Wei Ying's hair, luckily it wasn't too charred some brushing would fix it for the most part.

Wei Ying grinned, cupping Lan Zhan's face, he smothered his face in kisses to soothe him once again and chuckled when it worked.

Lan Zhan gripped his chin and kissed his lips, relaxing, his Wei is here, his Wei Ying is safe.

Wei Ying then prepared a bowl of the spicey congee and feasted on it happily as Lan Zhan read a book in bed with him, so shaken he dismissed his clan rules for the night.

When it was time to go to bed, Wei Ying snuggled into Lan Zhan and smiled when he felt arms wrap around him. Tighter, the hug became secure and Wei Ying closed his eyes.

When they tightened even more, Wei Ying shifted a bit but took no notice until they became so tight it was difficult to breathe. Lan Zhan couldn't get the thought of out his head of Wei Ying burning to death, it haunted him in his futile search for sleep. The possibility of Wei Ying burning to death made him feel sick and the idea of him screaming in agony as his skin burned almost made him cry.

Wei pushed away, cupping Lan Zhan's head he scratched through his hair lightly, "Lan Zhan... it's been hours since I burnt my hair and it wasn't that serious..." He kissed Lan Zhan's lips, "I'm here..."

Lan Zhan gulped, nodding, it was clear he was still troubled. Wei Ying grinned and sighed, shifting up the mattress slightly he brought Lan Zhan into his chest before curling around his head a little, smiling and giggling at the tickly sensation when Lan Zhan nuzzled his nose on his stomach.

Embracing each other once again, Wei Ying hummed their melody and kissed Lan Zhan's head between every pause of the song coaxing Lan Zhan to sleep quickly.

Wei Ying smiled at Lan Zhan's resting face, his small puffs of air and his parted lips, "I love you, Hanguang-Jun..."

The present~

Wei Ying reached for a basting spoon and scooping up some of the spicy sauce, as he did so, Lan Zhan walked into the kitchen, Wei grinned, "Lan Zhan!" He cheered, "How was your day?" He asked before slurping up some of the sauce.

He smiled a little at the severity of spice, then feeling arms wrap around his waist, he hummed, "Oh?" He turned, not getting a chance to think before his chin was locked in place and lips crashed onto his.

He gasped, allowing Lan Zhan access he almost gave into the tongue ravishing his mouth but pulled away, "Lan Zhan! I-I wouldn't have done that..." He bit his lip, wincing.

Lan Zhan frowned before the spice hit him, his eyes widened as a pink hue spread across his cheeks. Wei Ying chuckled, his heartwarming, how precious is my Lan Zhan?...

Smiling, Wei Ying quickly poured a glass of milk as Lan Zhan clenched his shaking jaw.

Lan Zhan gulped it down, dabbing his mouth after he handed it back to Wei Ying as the spice faded, "Drink." He ordered.

Wei Ying frowned, hesitantly drinking the milk, once he had done so he placed it down before being yanked into a tight embrace and kissed roughly, he moaned.

After a minute or so, Lan Zhan pulled back and placed his face in Wei Ying's neck, "...Still spicy..." He mumbled.

Wei Ying burst out laughing, petting Lan Zhan's hair, "I love you, Lan Zhan."
