Wei Ying skipped around Cloud Recess, after having brought his husband lunch and kisses (and disrupted a lesson by doing so) he was now on his way to the Hanshi where Zewu-Jun was tucked away for seclusion.

The grieving method was proving ineffective though as the man had recently left it temporarily to attend his younger brother's wedding, and how a certain in-law kept visiting him every day. But Lan Xichen didn't mind. Wei Ying was good company.

Today, Wei Ying ran up to the house bouncing on his toes with energy, knocking six times for good measure and laughing merrily when it opened, "Xichen-ge!" He cheered, throwing his arms around the man who chuckled fondly and hugged the smaller male back.

"A-Xian." Lan Xichen greeted as they walked inside and kneeled adjacent to each other, sipping tea as Lan Xichen served it, "What brings you here today?" He asked, a soft smile on his lips as Wei Ying smiled brightly.

Out of his robes, he pulled a diagram titled, 'Upgraded Empathy' it looked intriguing and Lan Xichen's eyebrows knitted together with fascination as he took it, reading it.

Wei Wuxian wanted to create an enchantment that would enhance empathy and rid it of danger by making it a public display, in theory, it would be a rectangle screen-like thing and everyone could watch the memories of a person.

Lan Xichen grinned, "This is super interesting," He nodded, his praise making Wei Ying giggle and bounce on his knees, "What do you need from me to help?"

At that, Wei Ying's smile dimmed just a little, worried for his brother-in-law's reaction, "W-Well..." He stammered, teeth finding his bottom lip, "I- er, I've been in the library every day for a week now trying to find a book that could help... but..." He trailed off, voice thinning weakly.

Lan Xichen stiffened, placing the array theory down with trembling hands, "...You want to enter the forbidden section." He stated, something he had allowed his sworn brother to do and got stabbed in the back for it.

Wei Ying grabbed the paper, folding it up nervously and hiding it back into his robes, "I-I can be chaperoned, e-er I-I just I really think I can make this enchantment a-and I won't mind be-being watched-"

"A-Xian." Lan Xichen cut him off, smiling sadly as he made his way around the table to hold his brother-in-law's hands, "You are family. I know you are a great person, you can enter- you don't need to be chaperoned. I trust you." He promised, chuckling when Wei Ying's eyes swelled with touched tears.

Wei Ying sniffled, huffing as he wiped them away, "Y-You're just as bad as A-Zhan!" He wailed, pouting pitifully, "S-Stop saying s-sweet things!"

Lan Xichen shook his head with an amused laugh, his stomach starting to ache with it, "Oh but you're just so lovely A-Xian!" He teased, laughing as Wei Ying squealed and ran out, Lan Xichen's voice following him, "The best! The cutest! ᵂᵉˡˡ ⁿᵒᵗ ᵃˢ ᶜᵘᵗᵉ ᵃˢ ᴬ⁻ᶻʰᵃⁿ ᵇᵘᵗ⁻"

Wei Ying wailed, covering his ears as his cheeks burned a vibrant red, "T-T-Thanks Xichen-g-ge I-I'll be off!"

Wei Ying had spent hours in the library, amazed at all the knowledge he could find to support not only his empathy array theory but plenty of others he has. It was sundown when Wei Ying finally left with a few books and a stack of notes to continue researching at home.

He was so excited to show this not only to his husband but to his brother-in-law too.

And so hopping like a bunny, Wei Ying closed the door to the forbidden section and turned to make a swift exit.
