There was but one final cycle of the sun before Wei Wuxian awoke again, coherent as to be expected and surrounded by faces he was nothing but sure he'd never see again.

Wei Ying trembled like a tiny fledgling as his fingers ghosted Lan Wangji's sharp jawline, pulling away with fingers damp from the other man's tears, "Lan Zhan..." He whispered, aghast that he could. He could speak, see clearly, and breathe easily, he awoke and felt a gentle breeze on his skin and let his eyes melt over the honey gold sunrise seeping through the gap in the window and pouring over the oak wood wall.

"Wei Ying..." Lan Zhan sobbed, breath galloping in his chest, "Wei Ying!"

Wei Wuxian found himself enveloped in strong arms and white lace, followed by purple satin and a wailing Jiang Cheng, and his sister. Her face was by far the most shocking of all.

Once he was once again, untouched and propped up against pillows, sitting, wow what a sensation, Wei Wuxian spoke. It was like playing an instrument that'd been abandoned for a while, it was rusty at first, harsh and blunt, but the flow slowly seeped in.

"I... I can't believe I'm here..." Wei Ying whispered, allowing Lan Zhan to take his hand, "Lan Zhan... Jin Guangyao... he told me you moved on, got married, and Jiang Cheng, they said it was like nothing had changed, you didn't miss me at all."

"Well, that's utter bullshit." Jiang Cheng spat through grit teeth, "That weasel fucking lied, Lan Wangji has done nothing but pine and Lotus Pier very nearly fell apart."

Wei Ying flinched, sighing tiredly. The words should've brought some kind of warmth, but they did not. How were you supposed to feel when for years all you've felt was nauseous?

"Shije... I thought..." Wei Ying closed his eyes and shook his head, "Once, a maid happened to stumble across the mirror and walk inside, she had compromised the secrecy of the chamber and no amount of threats could guarantee her silence so... I-It was blurry, I couldn't see or hear properly but J-Jin Guanyao he..." Wei Ying's voice cracked, "He pretended as if the maid was you, at the time, it was during your pregnancy and he... he killed her... I thought it was you... clearly, it wasn't."

Once Wei Ying started, the words couldn't stop pouring out, each tale more horrifying than the last.

"It was so bad, for years they'd do their worst but they couldn't hurt me to the point of no return, they couldn't exactly take me to a healer so threats against you and mental torture were their best solutions. Gods I'd never wished to be dead more before. Before they'd summoned me back, it was so peaceful, I wasn't... anywhere, I just was, and it was quiet, and I was at peace and then- then I was with them!"

"I'm not sure how much time passed but... suddenly I felt myself being pulled somewhere... I-I tried to fight it but clearly... t-that didn't work... aheh... and then I woke up In Guangyao's bed and I couldn't... move... It feels like it's been 20 years... everything is so slow when you're drugged..."

The day was spent with reunions and talking, eating and just breathing. It was hard, but it was the best day Wei Ying had had in years and years and years.

But all was not fixed. Wei Ying would wake up screaming and cower if you woke him up before recognising who you were. He reunited with his son but could barely hug him tight enough with his lost muscle mass, and couldn't live up to his reputation with Jin Ling as 'best hugger.' Everything was hard.

But not everything was hell.

"L-Lan Zhan!!" Wei Ying wailed, red like a ripe strawberry as Lan Wangji stood Wei Ying on his own feet and began to walk with him like a mother penguin.
