October 31

Three whole months went by in a jiffy. So much had happened within and outside office - team lunches (by team I mean just the 3 of us), snack exploring at various diners, team get togethers, farewells, birthday party, last moment meetings at the HQ and such. But the best one was Ramona's bachelorette party. We didn't do the regular Vegas. We in the west coast don't need no Vegas, we have beaches! That's right... the beach, that's where we celebrated her party.

We headed down to this amazing private beach house in L.A. We had booze, strippers and more booze. Whoo! Shannon, one of Ramona's childhood friend and a mutual friend now, brought over some cute local guys. And let's just say we may have done few regretful acts. I mean, who would not wanna  enjoy the bikinis, thongs, stripper heels, see through jackets, sun-kissed skin. The best part? We were drunk AF! Dance, games, dares, karaoke and food filles the atmostphere. And I was eagerly waiting for her wedding.

 And I was eagerly waiting for her wedding

@Ramona's bachelorette party

Back at office, it was time for Rafael to bid us all goodbye. It was saddening to watch a friend leave. But I was glad to have created so many wonderful memories with this friend. Susan and I will most definitely miss him. The depressing part was that, the branch didn't organize a farewell. And yeah, I mean Mr. Morton and Mr. Templeton of course. Two weeks ago when a Daniel someone resigned, the managers threw him a bash. We had many employees come from the other branches across Cal city to bid him farewell.

It was a dull Halloween that year. Susan and I had actually wanted to give him a fun farewell. When Rafael saw our disappointment, he wasn't surprised.

"I never expected them to wish me luck let alone throw me a party. So I'm not disappointed." he said with a smile. But I could still feel the hurt in his voice.

Was it because of me? Well, my birthday party to be specific. It was held a month ago. I hadn't mentioned my birthday to anyone. When I showed up in a light pastel blue frock that paired well with beige ankle strap heels, a bit outside my regular work wear people started guessing it. Towards the evening that day, Kaden had arranged for a simple birthday party. It actually took me by surprise, since none of the others had a birthday party. And I was really happy that day. But I yearned for the 3 golden gals of mine. I missed my besties so much that day. Dakota, Ramona and Yvonne. This surprise party would've been complete if the 3 were here.

But then again, any office party had to be approved by the managers. They're the ones who'd sign the checks. Well, technically I sign it but they've to sign after I sign it. So, in the end it was the three of us, in a tiny celebration. The other staffs didn't even bother to pitch in from their personal funds. They all wished him luck and went about their work. It was cold.

At the end of the day, as I was driving back home, I was looking back at these 3 months. Rafael was a heaven sent, to support me at the last moment. He didn't know much about the stuff Nadia didn't teach me. But he was good with his contacts. He would always try to find an answer and help me. If anything goes wrong and if people get upset, it was Rafael who was always there to lighten the mood. He had a great sense of humor. And Vincent Buster was the one who'd get roasted. Susan and myself would never troll anyone. But, I'd be lying if I said that we never pitched in a few points. Or scream "Burn!".

The part that was really funny was that, I had a crush on him. It was short lived, as you all must've guessed by now. It may have lasted for a month. But we became good friends. And I liked him a lot as my friend.

But the unforgettable moment would've been the bike ride with him. We had a sudden meeting at a neighbouring branch and had to head up there at 6 and it was already 5.50. Traffic being a bitch left us no choice but to take our bikes. Kaden and Rafael were the only ones who came in motorcycles. Kaden gave Betty a lift while I rode with Rafael.

It was a friendly ride. Or thats what I tell myself anyway. Could it have been something more? No. Never. It just wouldn't have worked out in the first place. Because, setting down is just not me. But he got along really well with Susan. At times, I thought they could turn into more. But sadly it never did. He was actually engaged to a girl named Jen. But they had a falling out few months back and broke off their engagement. From his talks though, he wasn't clearly over Jen.

And this one day, Mr. Russell came to our branch. It was Rafael who pointed out to me that Mr. Russell always wore a white shirt. Oh. I hadn't seen him that much so, obviously I wouldn't know that much about him. Apart from the fact that Mr. Russell had the most amazing voice, I never noticed anything else. Well, I would have if only I wasn't so busy in my cabin always. Plus, Victor never paid me a visit in my cabin. He would usually meet everyone else and leave.

He should meet me. He is my boss' boss after all! He would go about questioning everyone. But never me. I was quite disappointed at first. But knew better than to go and put my head inside the lion's mouth. Victor was well know for his temper. During each of his visit, the under performing member will be sent to meet him at the conference room. I always pictured it as the sacrificial lamb entering the den. One could hear the lion's roar. Plus, he had an arrogance about him. The kind I hated, yet, liked so much.

One thing I knew for sure, it was because of Rafael that I got to know more about Victor Russell. And from the depth of my heart, I wished him well. I wanted my friend to go to a good place and be happy. Adieu, Rafael Alejandro Ramirez.
