May 27, two years ago

"Get your lazy ass moving, kid." screamed my mother, at the top of her voice. "Get ready, the wedding is today. We can't be late."

With great difficulty, I finally open my eyes. Damn, this bed feels too good for me to even consider sitting up, let alone wake up. The chill breeze from the open window hit my face. Ahh... to feel this on a summer morning was only making things worse. I spread my arms and legs widely in the empty bed. Trying to ensure that all of my exposed skin could transfer the heat to the cool mattress.

But I didn't feel like going to this wedding. Weddings where you didn't know the bride or the groom, but still have to go to, since, you've to chaperone your folks to the venue, are the worst places you can find yourself in. But I really didn't have a choice to sit this one out.

I slowly sat up in the bed. Like a snake rising to the tune of the charmer. "I wonder how this day will go. Hope things don't get too crazy for me." I pondered. Little did I know, that it was indeed this very day that was gonna play a critical role in meeting someone. Someone, who I currently didn't even think would exist. Someone, who would in everyway be the one I wanted in a partner.

By the time I got my bottom of the bed, mother had probably finished her fifth scream at me. I continued with the rest of the usual process. Got dressed up for the wedding and left. A couple of my aunts had popped into town to attend the wedding. So all of us got into the car and I drove to the venue.

As we were exiting the premise, a figure caught my eye. It was Vern Sutherland, a guy I had quite forgotten all about. Sudden flashes of some of my memories involving him, crossed my mind. The sides of my lips curved into a smile. But he wasn't one to linger in my mind. In fact, he had tied the knot with his girlfriend just few months back. That's when I noticed the guy jogging next to him - Kenny Dugiére. I wouldn't say that I had a crush on Kenny. It was more like a drunken, one night stand days before his best friend Vern, tied the knot.

I was upset after all. I mean anyone in ny situation had to be. The guy I liked was getting married to the girl I liked! Mrs. Vern Sutherland formerly known to me as Ms. Anaesthesia Krishtopher, was probably the only girl who made my heart skip a beat.

And no, before you start judging me and labelling me, I'm not gay. Okay, maybe, I had some crazy times with my girl besties, which may or may not have involved little bit of touching and kissing. But it was different. That was just us messing around in college. And even now, everytime we meet. They're the ones who'll always be mine.

But Anaesthesia was a different kind of deal perhaps? But that guy had to go and scoop this girl. And what was she thinking either? She obviously could have done better. And now I'm mad at them both. But then again, how often does shit like this happen? And honestly, I didn't care about any of that now. I had moved on. They were now just the guys who lived in the neighborhood.
