Chapter Twenty-Eight

Running in the forest usually relaxes me. Normally, the scent of mint on the leaves usually keeps my head clear and the refreshing air keeps it cool.

But today is altogether a different matter.

The fresh air and the scent of the forest did nothing to calm my nerves. I know that there was a possibility of Lilly being attacked when I am not present. However, I cannot bring her along everywhere I go. I can't disturb her life and make it revolve only about me. Although I want to make her only mine, I fully know that she needs to establish her life with her own hands.

Ever since the very beginning, I understand that she doesn't and will not fully belong to me.

My job is to keep her safe and away from harm. My job is to love her and support her with all that I have.

That is why I need to trust others in protecting her. I trust Tristan that he will protect her with his life. But I still can't push away this feeling of anxiety when I heard that she is being targeted.

Her father is just like a bug which is easy to kill. But Elkin's identity as her father complicates things.

Also, Lilly won't like it if any member of the pack dies. It's the only reason why I handed the responsibility of giving punishment for hurting Lilly to her. She will surely hand a just decision.

Besides, it may help her recall.

Moments later, the location is already visible in my sight which makes me a little relaxed. I see that Tristan did a good job setting a formation of guards.

Hidden from the crowd's eyes, five of the best warriors under the beta's squad are watching the area carefully. Aside from them, Tristan also placed two of the best trackers on a stand-by. Around three kilometers from the position of the main guard, I see another five warriors from the gamma's squad.

Inside the garage, I sense five auras. Lilly's, Ethan's, Ron's, Elkins,' and the principal's aura. The latter's aura is, however, concealed.

Good. Lilly is good.

I run closer to the range and hear them talking.

"Even brought the gamma's son too? What a busy body you have." I hear Elkins say.

"Your mind smells like disgusting sewers Old Man! I swear I will bake some cookies for you and sprinkle them with a cleaning solution to help you clean them a bit!" Ethan shouts back.

Did this old man just say something nasty to my mate?

"Mind what you are sprouting if you don't want to be severely punished, Mr. Elkins. Slandering the Luna will bring you the jai--" I hear Ron say but I'm too furious to stop my action.

Since you seem to come here on account of your nasty daughter, why don't I give the same injury she had earlier?

Now will you dare to make accountable both your Alpha and Luna?

I want to give him more injuries but this is not the time. I am furious with the way he talks to my mate so I need to calm down.

I see my Lilly's small back and run towards her. I encircle my arms around her and breathe in her scent to help me stop.

Fortunately, I manage to recall my fire on time.

Lilly seems a bit startled at first but she quickly relaxes in my arms. My heart warms when she involuntarily leans on my arms. She trusts me and she is relieved that I returned to her.

Holding her tiny waist, I grasp her tightly to express that I am also relieved that I am back. And that I am sorry I wasn't on time to stop her father from verbally abusing my sweetheart.

My eyes wander around the old garage that is supposedly her home.

True, this is but an old and rusty place. But traces of Lilly can be found in each corner of this old and almost dilapidated place.

On the floor near the door is a rug made from used towels. The walls needed a repaint but they are also clean. And contrary to how it looks, the room smells clean and fresh. There is a small room on the corner that I think is her bedroom.

"Is this your room?" I ask a rhetorical question, but who cares, I just want to hear her say it.

"Ah? Ye-yes." My confused mate answers. She is also very cute with the way she stutters.

I wonder what her cute little bedroom looks like too. It most probably smells like her. So, without further adieu, I grab her hand and pull her to the tiny bedroom.

We are almost near the room when I hear the curly pup exclaims, "Woah! Woah! WOAH!" His voice's pitch is so high that it probably hurt my mate's eardrum. "Did you see? Did you see? That was so freakin' coooooooool!"

"Ahem." The gamma's son seems to have woken up from his state of stupefaction. Huh? It seems like his father already gave him the authority as a gamma. Although unofficially because me and Lilly haven't accepted it yet.

"Excuse me, Alpha. Can I ask for further instruction?" He carefully asks me.

Yeah? Isn't it obvious? He needs to learn more from Tristan if he wants to be my gamma.

I look at him like he asked a silly question. However, it looks like he became more confused.

"Bring Mr. Elkins to the elders for questioning. He is being formally charged for slandering and threatening the Luna." I answer his question, but my eyes are looking on the far side corner of the room.

"Yes, Alpha." The one who answers is not Ron, but the principal and also a member of the council of the elders, Mr. Baxter.

Aside from Lilly, the others present seem to be startled. I look at my beautiful mate with raised brows. Did she know from the start that Baxter is here?

Elkins, on the other hand, seems to be still in the state of being horrified.

Did dying through fire scare him so much that he can't stop trembling?

Well, I don't care about him.

Baxter moves fast. He gives a coat to Elkins before dragging him out of here. Finally. I can spend time with my Lilly.

I pull Lilly to her bedroom. Lilly doesn't seem to know what is going on because she did not move even when we are in front of the door. Well, can't be helped right? I put my hand inside her back pocket where she keeps her keys on.

Lilly jumps back from my sudden touch but that only made her soft chest touch mine. Well, I can't be helped again. I just happened to be exactly here.

I put my other hand at the small of her back to keep her in place as I take my sweet time in searching for the elusive keys.

Unfortunately, my fingers find the keys too soon.

I unwillingly let go of Lilly and open the door.
