Chapter Twenty Three

Stay By My Side

Lucas and me are sitting in the middle of the cafeteria. The place that I used to avoid for the past years. Last time I was here, I was sprawled on the floor, trying to catch my breath and keep myself alive.

Of course, all eyes are on us.

After Analise's fiasco, Lucas ordered someone to grab a new shirt for me. It arrived after ten minutes, so now, I am wearing Lucas' shirt.

As for Analise, I am still at lost as to what happened.

She tried to frame me and even got herself injured just to have me persecuted by the pack. Lucas, however, acted like everything has nothing to do with the two of us. Like the drama is not worth his attention. I only know that a pack doctor came and she was escorted to the hospital. Judging by how fast the healing ability of the werewolves are, she is probably on her way to healing now. Analise is also a strong wolf so I bet she will heal faster.

As for me, I wasn't able to go to my second period. Lucas dragged me to the rooftop to "rest" as he said. Truthfully, he just used my lap as his pillow while he took a short nap. Now it is lunch time so he dragged me again to the cafeteria.

Lucas is silently eating his food with his right hand while he is playing with my fingers with his left. The thing about Analise was never mentioned.

"Don't you like the food?" A low and husky voice says.

I look at Lucas and see him leaning to my side. One of his brows is slightly lifted.

"I like it." I answered with a small smile.

"Where are you uncomfortable? Is it because of what happened earlier?"

I purse my lips into thin line and take a deep breath.

"Am I not being punished?" I ask him.

"Was it you who injured her?" He answers with a question. I look at him and see him giving me a doting look.

"I.. I didn't do it." Did he know that I was framed? No one ever believed me before.

"I know." Is all he said while he takes my tray and cuts the bread into bite sizes. After he is finished, he peeled the banana and also cut it into pieces.

"Besides, even if you did it, I wouldn't have cared." He says as he returned my tray. "You can do everything and anything you want. As long as you don't endanger yourself and stay by my side." He softly add.

Feeling of warmth overflows inside my chest and, right then, I felt loved.

I am loved. Yes, love. That something that I never had before.

"..don't endanger yourself. Stay by my side." He softly whispers.

"Nothing can endanger me. No one can harm me." I reply with a smirk. "Who dares to defy me?"

"No one. But, I still want you to promise." He replies with a pout. "I want to hear you say that you will stay by my side forever." He adds.

"Sometimes, you are childish. Promises are nothing. If I say I won't leave you, the I won't. My very words are already promises." I tell him as I flick his nose.

"Sometimes, you are very elegant. Flicking my nose, really? If your people see it then they wouldn't believe their own eyes." He complains as he holds his nose. He looks very wronged and I burst out laughing.

"A mighty warrior was hurt because I flicked his nose? Now that's something others won't believe." I tell him with a smile.

"Fine." I say as I hold his hands. "This I say to you. I can't promise you that I will never do something that will endanger myself. You and everyone else are my responsibility. And I will do whatever it takes to keep everyone safe." I tell him seriously.

I feel him grip my hand tighter. I know that his heart breaks by every word that I said. But, I have to say them. I know he understands but understanding doesn't mean it stops him from hurting. I feel my that heart is being torn as I watch him get hurt.

"But this I promise. With everything that I have, I will never stop loving you. I will never betray nor forsake you as my heart and soul only belongs to you." I softly tell him.

"I promise you."

The sound of the bell wakes me up from my dream.

I am confused at first, but when I see that I am still sitting with Lucas, I quickly realize that I had another vision.

Who are those people? And why.. why is it that he said the same thing as Lucas?

I look at Lucas and see that he is looking at me. His eyes are filled with mixed emotions. Worry, love, and.. pain?

"Lucas. I--"

"Alpha." I was interrupted by Tristan who came quickly with an urgent look on his face. It looks like he has something important that he needs to tell Lucas. Lucas eye him and gives him a small nod.

"Lilly, I need to go. I will come get you after school. If I can't, I will get someone to accompany you home." Lucas tells me.

"It's okay. I will go back myself. I also need to talk to Mrs. Harley so I can take the papers she needs me to check. Then I have to come get my things from my room. I can't continue wearing your clothes."

I utter the words without realizing what I said. I instantaneously blushed from head to feet.

Lucas, on the other hand, is enjoying my embarrassment and chuckles at my expense.

Lucas says that he will get someone to accompany me 'home'. I just automatically assumed that 'home' is his house and not my room. I just unilaterally assumed that I will continue living in his house.

Lucas tenderly touches my nose. "If you thought other place aside from my house as your home, I would be greatly disappointed." He softly say as his hand lifts my chin up.

"I'll see you at home soon. I will send someone to come and get you and help you run your errands. We will need you to be present during the special training tonight." He adds. "And love, you need to resign from your part time work. I will need all of your free time."

Ah. But how about money?

He gives me a look which says that everything he said is final. But, even if I were to live in the pack house, I will still need money, right?

"I will give a notice to Mrs. Harley. You don't need to worry about anything."

Of course he will do that. Once Mrs. Harley sees the notice, she will not dare give me work anymore. Maybe he needs me for training because I can see those 'colors'?" If that's the case then I can't say no. So I simply nodded like a good child. That is until I feel his soft peck on my lips.

Since the bell has rang, half of the students already went to their classrooms. However, half of the students are still in the cafeteria, waiting for some actions to come.

So, they witnessed the alpha's display of affection.

Why is this alpha like to do public display of affection, anyway? It's like, he's making sure that he kisses me whenever we are out in the public.

But I don't think I am used to being kissed. Especially out in the public! I give him a glare as I take my bag and dash out of the cafeteria.
