Mikey's POV

Benji's eyes drooped closed again, and I felt a huge weight being lifted off of my shoulders. At least he's alive. Another doctor walked in, and I listened inattentively while she ran through some tests on my soulmate. My mind was in a world of pleasure as I watched the rise and fall of his chest, and I might be able to take off into flight with any more excitement.

"Alright sir, I'll be checking his magic supply now," the nurse announced, and I nodded distantly just like all of the other times. I just can't believe that I will get to hear him talk and laugh again. Words are unable to describe my giddiness at seeing him smile one more time with his pearly white teeth. "Sir... Sir... Sir!" Every time she said the word it was more urgent, but it took the raise in voice to maintain my attention.

"What is it ma'am?"

"His magic supply... It's been used up completely."

"What!?" I looked down at her hands where Benji's chest was transparent, and sure enough there was no trace of purple glow there. No, no this cannot be happening. He's supposed to be the master of our kind, he can't just lose his magic like this!

"I'm very sorry sir." I held tightly onto Benji's sleeping hand, and I couldn't imagine having to tell him of the horrible news. His stunning brown eyes would get sad; I hate it when they do that. It makes me feel his anguish right along side him.

"What does this mean?"

"It means that he will likely never be capable of using his magical abilities again." Tears came to my eyes, and I couldn't help but lean down and kiss my sleeping soulmate. His eyelids fluttered a little bit when I performed the action, but I was glad to see him stay asleep.

"Is there anything I can possibly do to help him?"

"There's a sliver of a chance that he may get it back if you train him up well again. I'm only saying this because he's a master; this has happened before. Records are unable to find how they did it though, so this is going to be a hard transition. I fear if we don't nurture it right the flame will die."

"Can't we perform a ritual to meet the past masters?"

"Not without Benji's magic we can't."

"Oh God..."

"There's nothing else we can do for him now... His remaining powers went to healing his body's damage, so we don't have any healing for him to do."

"What does that mean? Are you kicking us out?"

"We need the bed for an important man that took a tumble down the stairs."

"But what if he has trouble breathing?"

"Then bring him back obviously."

"I don't like your blatant disregard for the health and safety of my boyfriend and the master of the warlocks."

"Well he isn't a master anymore, is he?" The words took a blow directly to my heart, and my eyes began to feel warm. Why are they trying to bully me into possibly ending his life?

"Ma'am you have to understand-"

"I don't have to understand anything you say. This is my medical bay and I make the rules."

"Actually, I make the rules," a male voice boomed from the doorway, and the woman looked as if she might piss in her panties. A person I had seen only once before stood there giving the woman a hard glare, and she quickly scuttled away. The man had shorter brown hair and pale blue eyes which had been dulled with age, and he walked towards us. His height was slightly daunting to me, but I didn't let it show. I know that he must have authority in the pack or the doctor wouldn't have reacted that way to just the sight of him. I don't want to make a negative impression on someone who has power in one of the premier packs in the east of America, and above all I hope he doesn't hate me as soon as I open my big mouth. "You seem close to him."

"Oh, uh, yeah, I am close to him." I felt like I was sweating up a storm fretting over whoever this person is, and he flashed me a quick smile as if he could sense my unease. The sight of his teeth untensed my shoulders, and I went back to what I had been doing before the crazy doctor had tried to kick me out. My dark fingers mixed around Benji's pale ones as I held tightly onto his skin, and I could feel eyes staring down at the combination. However, I chose to ignore them and focus on my boyfriend, and the tingly feeling of staring eventually disappeared. The silence rang out between us, and I wanted to rub the back out my head. My cheeks were naturally hot from the slight PDA I was showing, but the other man didn't seem to mind. He also seemed to be mostly in his head, and I was glad of that because I was unconfident of my ability to talk to him.

"How close exactly?" The sudden words made me jump a bit, and I felt the need to retreat right back into my introvert hole. The only reason I had actively tried to make friends with Benji was because of the bond tingling around in my chest every time I looked at him. His chocolate brown eyes were so beautiful to me, and I wanted to stare at them all day if I could. It took me a few seconds to realize that I had never answered the other person's question, and I had to think for a moment to remember what it was.

"Well, it depends which one of us you ask."

"So is it like unrequited love or something?"

"No, it's just that he's 17 and I'm 18."

"Oh, I see, so you know about a bond that he doesn't."

"Yeah, and the rules say that I'm not allowed to tell him about it."

"Those rules are for the best dear. If you were to tell him about it right now without him feeling it for himself, it would mess with his mind. He would want to feel what you feel, and it would make him guilty to know that he couldn't."

"I know exactly what it would do to him, and I just wish I could ask when his birthday is without it being overly awkward."

"He was born on January 22nd."

"How did you know that?"

"His father is my brother in law- well, kind of. Our family is complicated with its relationships. I used to be until his father found someone else."

"What happened? How can someone find two soulmates?"

"There was alcohol and suicide murder involved in there. No one knows if my brother was ever really his soulmate or not, but Benji shares a lot of my genes indirectly."

"That's neat I suppose."

"Yeah. I'm proud of him for doing what my entire family couldn't do the last time we had to take care of Dray. We were only successful at putting him in a magic prison that evidently was not totally safe, but I wish we could have killed him."

"I bet you do."

"Well, he had tormented my husband ever since he was a baby. Of course I wanted his head on the bedside table."

"I am hoping that's a metaphor."

"To an extent. Now you get some rest, I know that you haven't slept since Benji got hurt."

"Yeah, I should, night."

"Night."
