"I cannot afford any other distractions. I need to win."-- Ikari Hebinoya
POV—Hebinoya Ikari
Cavalry Battle
Don't let me go.
I was never taught to apologize.
Father told me that saying sorry was weak.
I shouldn't apologize for killing.
And I should never ever
apologize for being a bastard's daughter.
Don't let me go.
It's Todoroki.
For a moment, I want to fall on my knees and beg for forgiveness from him. It's obvious that ever since our fight, something has drastically shifted between us— most of the times, I try to ignore the tiny hole that is in my heart, where Todoroki is usually placed in. As hard as it is to admit, I want nothing more but to feel safe again, yet every time I am nostalgic, it is always overshadowed by a wave of anger.
Todoroki stands in front of me, the sleeves on his jacket rolled up to his elbows. He waits for me to answer, his head slightly tilted to the left. I want to say yes immediately, but the only thing holding me back is my confusion. It doesn't make any sense why he is choosing me.
He's acting like we didn't have that fight at all. I search for anyone else who might want to be teammates, but no one else approaches me. This can be my only shot at pairing up with someone— especially with someone this good. All logic pushes me to pair with him, but a strange resentment holds me back.
"You're quite bold, Todoroki." I shift my feet, still deep in thought. It doesn't make sense. He doesn't make any sense either. Todoroki's made that clear in our practice session.
"Hebinoya, I am only choosing you because of your skill and ability. Nothing else." Todoroki's voice is unnaturally cold. I stare back into his eyes. Compared to the stars they had just been, now they seem dull and dead.
"Oh, thanks. That really helps, you know." I grumble, disappointed that he hasn't forgiven me yet. I take a deep breath, deciding on a choice. "Fine. We will be partners, but only for this battle."
"Agreed."
Even though I can still feel a slight air rivalry between us, I am relieved that I was at least chosen by someone. Todoroki leads me back to the rest of the people he has gathered, which is only made up of Kaminari.
"Hey there, Hebinoya! How ya doin'?" He asks, shooting me a finger gun.
"Just great..." I mumble. We only have three people on the team, and it doesn't seem very functional. I run through a few scenarios, my mind whirring with unnatural speed, and the more I dwell on it the more ineffective it seems.
