"They treated me like dirt because of my father and that's what made me freeze. Is that a good enough answer for you?"-- Hebinoya Ikari
POV—Hebinoya Ikari
Adoption
Don't let me go.
No one looked at me the way Azani did.
I looked like the whole world to her.
Not many people stared at me like that.
Most of the time, it was either
Disgust or shame.
Don't let me go.
Azani does not fail when it comes to taste. She astounds me time after time, after I've already accepted the fact that I cannot be anymore wooed with her things. But each time I am proven wrong.
First, the driveway. Long, winding, seemingly never-ending.
Second, the house. Basked in gold and illuminated in silver, decorated with glass and adorned with marble, my mouth falls open for the tenth time today as Azani steps out of the car and stretches, yawning. She leads me inside, giving me a small tour.
"This is the main hall."
Flowers in pots, nude marble statues, golden floors and painted ceilings... everything, pristine and magnificent.
Third, my room.
"This is my room?" My voice only raises higher when she opens another door on the second floor. The bed looks solely as if it were made of pure silk and feathers, two windows beside it with the sun beaming in, the curtains velvet, and a few desks in the corner with couches and chairs enough to make anyone happy.
"I heard you were a photography enthusiast." Azani continues, strutting over to one of the mahogany tables and showing me a brand new camera and computer.
I'm sure that my blood pressure needs regulating, because as of today I've already had three heart attacks, and this situation will be the fourth.
I bow to her, thanking her profusely as I gently open the package. The lenses are not cracked. The sides aren't worn or chipped. The sheer sleekness makes me want to cry.
"Now that we've got all of that out of the way, we have to do something about your drab clothes." Azani says in distaste, pursing her lips as she eyes me up and down.
"What's wrong with my clothes?" I ask, looking down at my worn sleeves. I've patched up my pants a few times since it's grown small a few times.
"It's terrible. We're going shopping."
