I Was Wrong

It had been a few days since the last fight, and I had hoped it would stay that way. I was wrong. The day started out normal, nothing too special. Rose Summer had left to go on a debate championship mid-school day. It was weird how good Rose Summer was at debating. She just had a charming and persuasive way about it. And most the time the guys (and occasionally girls) sided with her. Just another Rose Summer talent.

It was right before 7th period when shit hit the fan. I was walking to class with Jones, who had been dancing around and her words were slurred. She was drunk. And possibly high. I didn't think much of it though, she was either drunk or serious. Part of me preferred when she was drunk. She was more interesting like that, when she wasn't drunk she didn't do much. She just seemed pissed, so I never stopped her from drinking. As bad as it was, I didn't really like Jones when she wasn't.

Everything was fine and peacefully for one second. Until we heard a very annoying voice,

"If it isn't the little bee girl." Laughs echoed from around the corner. Jones rushed ahead to see the source of the noise. I quickly followed suit.

What seemed like the entire cheerleading team, Felicity leading them, surrounded Honey. They were pushing her, pulling her hair, and calling her names. Honey looked scared to death, she was so much smaller in comparison. Her big hazel eyes looked like she was about to cry.

"Aw, is she gonna cry?" Chelsea cooed. The girls laughed, people walking quickly away from them not wanting to get into the mess.

"Hey!" Jones shouted. She dropped her books to the ground and walked up to the girls, "Leave her the fuck alone." Her tone was serious, almost scary. Everyone stood still for a while, shocked. It was if time had stopped, I even found myself afraid to move.

"Oh no! It's the smart weirdo. I'm soooo scared." Felicity said in mock fear. "What are ya going to do? Bore us to death with books?" Felicity laughed. I don't know why the cheerleaders were laughing, their insults were half baked.

Before I knew what happened, Jones towered over Felicity. The hallway went silent once again, holding their breath waiting for the next move to be made. Jones pushed Honey towards me, who ran into my arms crying. My heart broke a little.

For a while we all just stood in place, no one daring to move. Felicity and Jones having the most intense staring contest I've ever seen. The only sound was Honey's soft sobs. Felicity hit first, slapping Jones across the face. The halls filled with soft gasps and whispers, some were even cheering. Jones touched her cheek, she looked back down at Felicity. Jones punched Felicity right in the nose, causing her to fall back. The gasping grew louder, phones beginning to record. I held Honey tighter in the arms.

The group of cheerleaders stepped back. Jones looked pissed. Slowly, a full on fight broke out, 12 on 1. But Jones didn't back down. She was full of rage, fighting back with everything she had. I had never seen Jones be so aggressive. The weirdest part though, was that Jones was laughing. As she was being hit and pushed, Jones laughed. Her voice echoing through the halls. She was losing, she was bleeding, she had no chance of winning. But she was laughing, which made me smile. She made it sound as though this was a joke, and she was just messing around. Jones punched and kicked, but she was being absolutely destroyed.

I suddenly felt Honey leave my grasp, running over to the fight. I tried to stop her, but she was too quick.

"Stop it!" She cried tugging at the girls' sleeves. She begged and begged, but the girls were to focused on Jones. Jones's laughter had pissed them off to the point were they looked like they were trying to kill her. One of them even had a bat on them for some reason. They were beating the shit out of Jones while Honey pleaded for them to stop. Yet, I stood where I was. I didn't move, I was too scared to. So, I ran. I ran far away from the fight. I looked back for a second, a teacher had come to stop the fight. Honey turned around and met my eyes. I ran faster. I ran out the doors of the school. I ran into the streets. I cried.
