Maki's POV

I was at the D.I.C.E. headquarters when I noticed something off. Not everyone was here. I had a bad feeling.
"Maki! Haven't seen you in a while! Where were you?", asked Enji.
"Where's Yuri?" He shrugged. "Don't know. Ask Yusuke. He saw her last." I did as he said and walked over to Yusuke. "Ms Harukawa, surprising to see you here. Last time I saw you, you were just recruited." I fold my arms over my chest. "Where's Yuri?" He didn't flinch. "Why is that any of your concern?" "She's always here. Now, where is she?" "You're overreacting. She could've just went out to buy a gift for the boss."
I was growing impatient. "Where. Is. Yuri?" Yusuke stood up. "Like I said earlier. You're overreacting. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have important business to attend to." He walked out the room. Maybe he was right. Maybe I was overreacting. But the bad feeling never left me. Whenever I got a bad feeling, it was never wrong.

I was walking back to my house when I heard a scream. I looked to my side and saw a house with two silhouettes in it. The one was towering over the other. I looked at the house to realize a horrible truth.
This was Himiko's house.
I ran to the front door and rammed it open. I looked at Yuri to see she was holding a knife and towering over Himiko. "What are you doing?!" "Stay out of this, Maki!" "Maki?" I looked at Himiko. There was a cut on her arm.
"I'm sorry Yuri. But I can't do that. You're hurting my friend. I won't allow that." Yuri was furious. "Then I'm gonna have to kill you too!"
She dashed towards me, holding her knife tightly. But thanks to my training, I dodged to the side, grabbed her arm, and threw her to the ground. Before she could grab her knife, I grabbed both her arms and held it on her back.
"Let me go! That bitch deserves this! She took everything from me!" "What are you talking about?"
"Kokichi is mine! Only mine! Until she came along!" She struggled, but I just pushed her into the ground. "Your friends won't be too happy that you almost exposed your organization. Neither will Kokichi." Then, the most confusing thing happened. She laughed. "Disappointed? My friends? Please! They wanted this! He wanted this!" "Who? Kokichi?" "I'm not telling you a thing, assassin!" She began struggling again. I karate chopped her nape, which knocked her out.
I looked over at Himiko, only for her to jump towards me and hug me while crying. While I was comforting her, I took out my phone and called the police. "Hey, Himiko? Do you have anything I can use to tie her up?" She nodded and lead me too her basement. She gave me some rope, which I used to tie up a still unconscious Yuri.
"Maki?" I turned around to look at Himiko. "What's going on? Why did that girl do this? Why did she call you an assassin?" My mind was conflicted. I didn't know whether to tell her the truth, or lie. "Please, I want to know." I looked at Himiko's tear stained face. I sighed, deciding to tell her the truth. "You might want to sit down", I tell her.
The rest of the night, I told Himiko everything, from me joining D.I.C.E., to me being an assassin. However, I didn't tell her that Kokichi was the leader of D.I.C.E., just a member. I didn't want her to feel more hurt.
Himiko was busy taking this all in. "So, Kokichi... is a criminal?" I nodded. "H-he lied to me. He lied to me!" "Himiko..." "I actually thought he liked me! But it turns out he was using me!" With that, I grabbed her shoulders and turned her around. "Now listen here, Himiko. Kokichi may lie about a lot of things, but I doubt he'd lie about his feelings." "Why should I believe you? You lied to me too. About your talent." "I know. And I regret it. But what would you have done if you knew you were classmates with an assassin?"
With that, Himiko became silent. "Exactly. I lied to protect myself. From the hate. From the judgement. But I also lied to protect you all from me. From getting involved with my business. That's what Kokichi's doing. He's protecting you. He didn't want something like this to happen."
Himiko remained silence. "Okay. But I'm talking to him tomorrow. I want to hear this from him." I nodded, showing that I understood. Then we heard police sirens outside. Yuri stirred awake. "Wha-? What happened? What's going on?!" "Simple. You're not going to see Kokichi for a while."
