Chapter 24- Light

Mo peeked through Maya's slightly open door, his heart weighing heavy when he saw his niece sobbing on her bed, clutching a picture of her Mum.

"Don't cry, Maya", he pleaded. He walked into her room and wrapped his arms around her.

Maya sobbed into his arms.
"I want Mum..."

Mo frowned.
"I want her too. She'd know how to help you."

"Everything's a mess. I need her here."

"I'm here. Please, Maya. Just tell me what's wrong."

Maya shook her head. "I-I can't..."

Mo frowned. He gently pulled away from her, taking her hands in his. "Nads was the best sister ever.
We drove each other crazy but she always had my back", he said, tears forming in his eyes.
"There have been so many times where I needed her. So many."

Maya exhaled shakily.
"How do you do it? How do you... carry on without her?"

Mo sat down beside her.
"Whenever she was sad, she'd do something kind. Carry a stranger's bag, water our neighbour's plants. She'd do anything she could to help someone else. So, that's what I do.
On the days I miss her the most... I do something for someone else."

Maya smiled. "I-I'd like to try that."

"What's going on?", questioned Azlan.

"The power must be out", replied Phillip.
"I will fix this issue. Stay here."

Quinn reached into her pocket for her phone, but stopped when she heard erratic breathing.
"Who is that?"

Silas turned his phone light on, his eyes widening when it landed on a struggling Bennett.

"Dude, what's wrong?", asked Silas.

Bennett just shook his head, unable to breath.

One by one, the others turned their lights on, coincidentally lighting the way to the front door. Bennett quickly got up and rushed towards it.

"Bennett!", yelled Professor Harrow.

"I'll go after him!", exclaimed Yukishiro.

Silas looked around the room.
"Maybe we can find out what he knows about Katie? Yukishiro can handle Bennett."

The others looked at a hesitant Professor Harrow. Finally, he caved in and stood up.
"We do 5 minutes of searching, ok? Then we come back here. Take pictures but don't move anything around."

The others nodded.
"Have faith, stay strong", said Azlan, which made the others nod in agreement.

With Katie in her transportation device, Lena opened up a file on her computer.

Pictures of her and Professor Harrow appeared on the screen. They were a little younger, but that wasn't the only thing that changed.
