Bennett stared at the familiar house, painful memories resurfacing in his head.

'You've got this, Bennett', he thought. 'Stop being a wuss.'

"Bennett!", called out a familiar voice.

Bennett swiftly turned round, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion when he saw the person.
"Maya?
What are you doing here?"

"I'm here for moral support", she replied.

Bennett rolled his eyes.
"I don't need you here!"

"I'm coming anyway", said Maya.

"Typical.
Look, you're useless to me.
So why don't you just run off-"

"-NO!", she exclaimed, startling Bennett. "You can say all the mean and hurtful things you like. But I'm not going anywhere."

Bennett stared at the girl. She showed no signs of backing down.

Despite being on better terms with her, it was in Bennett's nature to push others away. He hated people seeing him at his lowest.

To him, vulnerability equalled weakness.

Bennett just sighed.
Without saying another word, he turned around and walked into the house.

The house was just as he remembered.
Damp, the strong smell of rust filling his lungs.

Then it hit him.

The faint smell of lavender, the ghost of a scent lingering in the air.

Then it got stronger.

"My boy", said a lady.
She walked out of a nearby room.

Her face was riddled with nerves. Her brunette hair had been attacked by age, grey strands littering the front of her head.

She wore a vintage cotton dress, paired with black sandals.

Bennett's jaw tightened when he saw her, but the minute the lavender smell returned, his face softened.

The woman saw Maya.
"You brought a friend?"

"Let's get this over with", said Bennett.

As the pair entered a room, Maya stepped in too.
Bennett held his arm out.
"Not you."

"What? I said I'm staying with you."

"No."

Maya frowned.
"I'm just looking out for-"

"-Go!"

Maya sighed and stepped out of the room, frowning when he slammed the door in her face.

The others sat nervously as they waited for Bennett to return. Azlan tapped her fingers against the table, whilst Yukishiro clasped and unclasped his hands many times.
