Chapter 26- Spillage

"When Nadia was pregnant, a man reached out to her, asking to experiment on you. She refused, so the man used violence. He did his experiment and... and she managed to break free after. She died a couple of months after your birth. The experiment drained the life out of her."

Maya stared at her Uncle in disbelief. She searched his face for any sign that this was just a cruel prank.

She couldn't find anything but pain.

"Wh-what kind of experiment did he do?"

Mo sighed, his breathing slightly strained.
"We don't know exactly. But... it was to make you part robot."

With it being a weekend, Silas called a group meeting in the park to talk about the newspaper articles they found.

"Where's Maya?", asked Silas.

"She hasn't replied to my messages", said Quinn.

"What's this about?", asked Bennett.

"We found articles about the Ashworth man in Everett's room. Articles from the original case years ago", explained Silas.

Yukishiro gasped.
"Why would he have those?"

"Maybe he's tied to them in some way?", suggested Azlan.

"I did some research last night. Apparently, Ashworth took pregnant ladies to experiment on to make them part robot", explained Silas.

Quinn groaned.
"That man is sick."

Silas nodded in agreement. "Apparently, he only got two babies. They were dubbed the 'Ashworth Babies'. "

Just as Quinn was about to talk, Maya approached them.
"Maya! It's good that you're here", said Quinn. "We were talking about that Ashworth man-"

"-I'm one of the Ashworth babies."

Everyone stared at Maya as if she had grown a third head.

"What?", questioned Quinn.

Maya nodded.
"Ashworth a*ducted my Mum when she was pregnant with me. She got away after he did the experiment, but it messed her up and she died a couple months after I was born. Ashworth never found me."

Quinn quickly got up and wrapped her arms around Maya.
"Babe, I'm so sorry!"

Maya hugged her back, her long eyelashes becoming coated in tears. She didn't break away from her embrace.
"I'm part robot. Just like Katie."

Quinn pulled away.
"No. You're similar, in a way. But you're not fully robotic. Maybe there's a way we can reverse this?"

"Everett had the articles at his house. Maybe he's tied to Ashworth in some way. Maya I know this is important, but I think we need to focus on finding the link", said Silas.

After a long pause, Maya nodded. "You're right. You guys have my support, of course. If Phillip really is tied to Ashworth, he could be dangerous."
