I take in a breath of air as I look out at the dark forest. "Xavier let me go!"
"You started it!" Xavier yells as he pushes Daniel to the floor. "Boys. Thats enough." I growl out. The instanlty stop. "Sorry." The both mumble. "Let's fix your tie." I mumble as I kneel down in front of them.
I adjust Daniel's small tie and smooth out his suit. "Do you think mommy is ok?" He asks me as a tear falls down his flushed cheeks. "She is dead Daniel. She isn't ok." Xavier mutters harshly. "Xavier, that wasn't nice." I say softly before looking back to Daniel.
"I think she is ok now." I wipe the tear from his eyes and stand up as I smooth out my black dress. Everyone has one. A funeral dress, it's usually buried deep in ones closet. Who wants to look at a dress that is designated for one's death?
Dylan comes next to me and kisses my cheek. "Woah. You're a real Alpha." Daniel mumbles astonished as he cranes his neck to look at Dylan.
"I am and one day so will you." He replies. "You hear that Xavier! I am going to be alpha." He says grinning.
The attitude in these two are extremely high. "Daniel!" A boy around the same age as the twins run in.
We have been staying at the palace for the past couple of days, to help my father and prepare for the funeral.
"Tommy!" I hear a feminine voice call.
Sophie peeks her head around the corner and smiles. "Hi." She greets. "Hey." I say with a smile. "Is he bothering you?" She asks softly. "Not at all."
"Great." She responds with a soft sigh. "Boys. They are quite a handful." She says laughing softly.
"Yes." I agree as I smile back.
"Boys. Come with me." My father says in his alpha tone. "You two can come too. We are just going to sit down."
We follow them outside and take our seats beside them. I feel my breathing hitch as my eyes meet the black coffin with silver designs on it.
She is in there but she isn't.
Word spread quickly about the queens death. Many supernatural creatures are gathered here, not all but all have mourned her.
She was..is very loved.
The last funeral I was at was the death of my adoptive parents. I could barely stand to witness it.
I am doing this for the family beside me. My father looks at the coffin with sadness in his eyes as he sits stiffly.
The service starts. Many people come up and remince about her and how kind and great she was. Guards are scattered around us making sure everything runs smoothly.
My father reminces about his love, how they met. His eyes glaze over before he sits down. Dylan squeezes my hand as he reassures me.
I stand up and make my way to the center near her coffin. The large crowd mumbles incoherently. My stomach forms knots as I open my mouth. "There isn't many ways you can describe the feeling of losing someone you love, nevermind your mother or mate. I only just got her back before she was taken from me again. In that short amount of time she has taught me, loved me, showed me how to be me and still be a mate and friend. Her words never failed to ensue comfort or just the right amount of feirceness. She died being a protector, a mother, a friend, a queen. She did what she thought was right and saved many lives in return, mine included. I am forever debted to her. If she were here she would tell us not to mourn, not to die with her but to live and love and not take anything for granted. She would say if you have to die, die protecting your family or doing whats right." I look to the casket with tears in my eyes. "Goodbye momma." I whisper softly.
I sit down next to Dylan with shakey legs. The funeral soon ends after that. "I will be back." I tell Dylan softly. "Let me come with you?" He pleads. I nod as he grabs my hand softly.
We walk in silence through the thick forest behind the palace. Fireflies and faeries light up the trees as darkness slowly falls.
"I love you." Dylan whispers softly as he stops and pulls me into his arms. "Don't die on me. Ever." I whisper. He hugs onto me tighter. "You can't get rid of me that easily sweetheart." He kisses my forehead softly and smiles. We sit down by a small stream, I watch as the water flows by.
I lean agaisnt dylan and listen to the soft rushing of water and the small sound of birds and creatures as the sun sets.
"I'm so tired Dylan." I mumble. "I know baby." He smoothes my hair down and kisses me deeply.
Without him here, I wouldn't be in control. I would be a mess, an uncontrollable mess. I owe everything to him. He is my everything. "I love you too." I tell him softly.
He grins at me and pulls me into his lap. "You, my darling, are extremely breathtaking." I nudge him gently causing him to smirk.
We head back to the palace shortly after, we make our way through the back entrance near the garden. "Rosie." I look over to see my father sitting among the dying roses.
"I'll be inside." Dylan kisses my forehead softly and smiles.
I sit beside him and smile. "You know what has to happen now." He says softly. "No, I don't." I reply.
He gives me a halfhearted smile, "you are going to become queen."
I let out a laugh. "No I'm not. Am I?"
"You are. The twins are too young and you are the first born, the rightful heir." He says as his eyes meet the horizon. "You're still king." I tell him.
"I can't rule without her, she was the king. She was an amazing ruler. The job is meant for two, the workload is too much, plus I have the twins to take care of.." he trails of as he swallows, "by myself." He whispers.
"I guess I really don't have a choice then." I reply.
He smiles, "that's what she said too. You always have a choice."
I will make the right choice this time.
