I had always been indifferent about Valentine's day. In fact, I always thought that it was a holiday invented by capitalism to make couples waste money... Don't judge me, I learned that watching DuckTales. But 2011 was different. I had a boyfriend now and, even though I still didn't get the hype around Valentine's day, it felt a little different.
When Finn and Kurt picked me up that morning to go to school I was kinda nervous about what the day was gonna bring me.
"Are you okay?" Kurt asked me from the front seat.
"Yeah, yeah" I said as I checked for the hundredth time if I had Sam's gift in my backpack.
"It's Sam, you don't have to worry. I'm sure that if you just give him a soda can he'll be happy" my friend said again and I kicked his seat making him laugh.
"Stop" I complained. "You're not helping"
"How am I the mature one here" Finn whispered loud enough for us to hear him.
"Make him stop Finny-bear. Or at least help me".
"What do you want me to say?" he asked as he turned the steering wheel to get in the school's street.
"You have celebrated Valentine's day before. Give me some advice".
"Yeah, but I'm a dude. I only know what guys do: give flowers, maybe chocolates and try to get to second base" he admitted.
"Gross" I uttered as I rolled my eyes and did a disgusted face. "Focus on the road".
The boys laughed and we spent the rest of the trip in silence, apparently calm, and I say apparently because I was everything except calm.
"Okay, parked. See you at rehearsal guys" Finn said as he turned off the car. The three of us got out of the vehicle and started to walk to the building.
"Get going, I'll be there in a minute. See you later at practice" I uttered and, after waving at them and seeing them get into the building, I quickly picked my phone and texted my boyfriend.
Chat w/Sam❤️
Where are you?
Happy Valentine's day you too, I love you and everything
Yeah, that. So, locker?
I can't believe I am being so romantic and you're talking to me like that. Sam is: sad.
And yeah, at my locker.
On my way💞
After taking a deep breath I reunited the courage to walk into the school and, right when I turned around the corner and saw him standing there smiling, all my fears disappeared. When I arrived by his side I kissed him softly.
"Happy Valentine's day" I smiled.
"Happy Valentine's day" he said. "I know we agreed on not spending money on this gift but I couldn't resist myself so... There you go" he finished and he showed me bouquet of flowers. "A bunch of flowers for my favorite flowerish girl".
"I bet you just invented that word" I laughed. I hugged him and looked at the flowers with a huge smile on my face. "I love them. They're beautiful".
"Just like you".
"And thank God I wasn't the only one to break the pact because I brought you something too" I said as I searched in my bag and when I finally found his present, I smiled and handed it to him. "I know you're all crazy about your body image but I thought you could make an exception just for today and eat these chocolates".
