"Okay guys, I have some bad news" Mr Schuester said as he walked into the choir room. "You know how we decided on Sing by My Chemical Romance for Regionals? Well, I hold in my hand a cease and desist letter from the band. We can't do it".

"It was the perfect anthem" Puck complained.

"Seriously can anything good happen to us? And since when do we have to ask for permission to cover the songs for competitions?" I asked, pretty pissed.

"How much do you wanna bet Coach Sylvester has something to do with this? She's coaching Aural Intensity now. This is very foul play" Mercedes uttered.

"One step ahead of you. She has something to do with it. We have to choose another song".

"What are we gonna do now? Regionals is only a week away. We seriously need to stop choosing our setlist the week before the competition" I said trying to think of a new song.

"I think we should write original songs for Regionals" Rachel said again.

"All those in favor of voting Rachel down a second time?" Santana asked and almost everyone raised their hands.

"No, I think Rachel's right" Quinn suddenly exclaimed. I quickly turned around to see if she was joking but, surprisingly, she looked prettyconvinced about it. "This team works best when we push ourselves and do something a little different".

"That's true but if all the other teams are doing amazing songs we're not gonna be so god" Mercedes mumbled.

"That's right" Quinn said again. "We're not gonna be as good. We're gonna be better. We won't be using other people's words or music. It'll be our own. Our own heart, soul... Not just our voices. And we have two really talented songwriters in our midst: Sam and Rachel. Rach, I was thinking maybe you and I could write a song together". Wow, that was surprising.

"I'm with Quinn and Rachel" Finn suddenly stated. "I mean, if these two can agree on something it's probably an idea worth considering".

"Wait, wait. So, suddenly you two are writing the music for Regionals? No way. I think that everyone should have a chance to write a song".

"Santana's right, we can do this" Sam said.

"Well, in that case I think we're doing original songs for Regionals" our teacher exclaimed.

...

After a couple days of struggling with inspiration the New Directions were all prepared to their first original song rehearsal. Well, some were more prepared than others.

"I can't write a song. I just can't" Mike complained as we eneterd to the choir room. "How does people expect me to write a song if I can't even sing? Ask me for anything else. A choreography! a new dance style! Everything except a song"

"Chill" I laughed. "I'm sure you have ideas deep down that head of yours".

"How's your songwriting going anyway?"

"All I could think about while writing were flowers, beaches and chocolate so I stopped before I'd write a sad romantic movie soundtrack" I admitted and Mike chuckled. We sat together and waited for the rest of the team to arrive.

"All right guys, let's hear it for our first songwriting seminar" Mr Schue said as he entered the choir room holding a bunch of books that he began to give us. "While Quinn and Rachel are hard at work, we're gonna try to write an anthem of our own. Now, these are rhyming dictionaries for all of you".
