hullo there! this story is gonna be a bit sad so read at your own risk, but I do hope you enjoy non to less! Also, I apologize if some of my facts are incorrect, I have read the books a few times but I know they differ from the movies in a few ways and I have not seen all the movies. Also, non of this is canon, I hope that is clear.

The battle was roaring on, as Order members, students and professors fought as hard as they could against the death eaters. Some loosing their lives, Many getting injured in the process. Wild spells shot through corridors and passageways, much of the castle becoming destroyed in the process. For the most part Hermione stuck with Ron and Harry, throwing every spell she could at those she knew were bad. She hoped for the safety of everyone she loved, including one in particular, her heart aching at not knowing if he was alright. Her memories of that day become clouded when she reached the great hall with Ron in tow, and found the Weasley's crowded around a body, her heart sinking. She glanced to the left to see Remus and Tonks' lifeless bodies, as well as others she knows. She walked slowly to Molly and Arthur hoping her worst fear had not come true. The two looked up at hearing footsteps, their faces full of worry and varying degrees of pain.

"Please, don't tell me its him" Hermione said just above a whisper,  as her anxiety grew

The older couple just stepped aside slightly, allowing the brunette into the huddle. It took a few seconds for Hermione to access the situation. Her mind reeled as Fred, her Fred the one who she had been with since her third year, laid motionless on a floor cot, breathing unsteady, bleeding from the head and looking absolutely awful, as well as being unconscious. She dropped to her knees as tears began to fall from her eyes, the processing was done and she came to realize what she was seeing.

"What happened?" Hermione asked trying not to sob

"It's my fault, I should have watched him better, im his older brother" Percy said in a guilty tone, tears falling from his eyes behind his glasses

"It's not your fault Percy, how were you supposed to know?" Ginny asked

"Please just tell me what happened" Hermione said as she tried to control her tears

Ginny knelt down beside the brunette, took her into her arms and told her the truth.

"A wall fell directly onto him, but thankfully Percy was quick to get him out of the rubble and down here" Ginny said quietly

Hermione began to sob silently, sitting fully on the floor, wrapped in Ginny's arms. Ron sat on the other side of her, rubbing gentle circles into her back. She then picked up Fred's hand and held it in hers, tracing his knuckles, trying to feel his magic reach out to hers, it was weak but still there. She squeezed his hand gently, hoping for pressure back, but nothing happened. Soon there was a commotion outside and everyone rushed to where the entrance used to be.

They watched as a limp Harry was carried by Hagrid, over the bridge and in front of them, Voldemort leading the remaining death eaters in a dark sort of parade. After Voldemort's speech, which Hermione didn't care to hear, she was too focused on Harry and Fred. She was brought back to focus by Harry falling from Hagrid's arms and fighting Voldemort for what would hopefully be the last time. They all watched as Harry defeated him, turning the dark wizard to dust. There were cheers and claps among the crowd, as Hermione, Ron, the Weasley's and the rest of Harry's friends surrounded him.

*a few hours later*

Hermione sat in a chair next to Fred's hospital bed, holding his hand, feeling his magic. She didn't know what to do, as the healers all had mixed opinions. They mostly felt he would make it, but a few felt the damage was to severe. She was alone with him in the room, unable to be convinced to leave his side. The Weasley's had all gone to have a dinner at the burrow to grieve and be together, Harry had disappeared, so it was just her.  So, she began to talk to him as if he were awake.
