I opened my eyes to only see black swirling around me. I flailed my arms out around me, trying to find something to grab as I sucked in a huge mouthful of water. I kicked my legs underneath me, trying to make myself going up towards the water surface but I felt like my body was frozen. Somehow, I manage to stuck my head out of the water and I started coughing as I tried to breath in the air but just as I tried too a wave came crashing over me and pulled me right back into the water.
I swallowed another mouthful of water as I felt it go through my nose as well. I saw bubbles as I tried to gasp for air, only to swallow more water. I continued trying to pull myself upwards, but I wasn't sure if I was doing it right – I didn't know how to swim and this was the worst possible scenario I could have been in. I honestly thought I was going to die as my head bobbed up in the air again and I looked around, seeing that I was being pulled by the current and waves. I tried to scream for help but then another wave pulled me back under and I was really struggling to breath at that point.
I was really starting to panic, and I knew that wasn't good to be doing right now but I literally didn't know what to do and things were starting to get fuzzy the longer I was underneath the water. I bobbed above the water again, coughing terribly and I could barely see where I was at now because my hair was hanging over my face. I tried to move it but I went back underneath the water and only swallowed more water. All I could hear was the sound of water slashing around me as I slammed against something, but the current yanked me right away from it and I swore I felt like my leg had been ripped off. It stung and I wasn't sure what happened, but it was only seconds later that I felt a set of arms wrap around my waist and then legs kicking against mine. If my vison wasn't so blurry, I would have been able to make out who it was, but by the time they had pulled me back above the water... I was almost fully unconscious.
I don't remember much after that except for the feeling of someone pounding on my chest and then lips over my own. I felt them pushing hard on my chest and then I started to feel water come up through my throat and I had the urge to spit it out. When I started coughing, whoever had just given me CPR sat me up and held on to me as I leaned against them for support. I felt like I coughed for a long time and then when I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was sand. I still felt like everything I was seeing was a blur and my hearing was just as muffled. I could hear someone talking but I felt like I couldn't make out their words – then, just with the blink of an eye, it all returned to normal. My chest and throat hurt a lot and I felt like I had been ran over by a truck but that's when I saw the huge gash in my leg – probably from whatever I had slammed into underneath the water.
"Danielle?" Adam grabbed my shoulders, "Danielle say something please!"
I looked at him and then just started busting out laughing when I realized he had been the one who had just given me CPR. I saw Kimberly sitting in the sand next to us and the others were running up towards us from afar.
"What are you laughing at?" Adam asked with pure worry in his eyes, "You almost just died. Why are you laughing?"
This was not the time to be laughing and I knew that. But the only thought that just crossed my mind in that moment when I realized Adam had been the one giving me CPR, was the fact that he had to press his lips against mine... Meaning he basically just kissed me and that thought gave me butterflies.
"Danielle what are you laughing at?" Adam asked again, "Please say something, you're scaring me!"
"I-I'm sorry." I tried to hide my snickers in between coughing up water still, "You just... you just basically kissed me."
"Oh my god..." Kimberly rolled her eyes.
"Is she alright?" Rocky asked as the others finally reached us.
