"I'm very sorry if my grand-daughter has gotten your grandson into any trouble lately at school. She's been quite the troublemaker lately and I just don't know what to do about it." My grandmother shook her head.

I snapped my head at her, meeting eyes with her for a brief second before quickly looking away. Of course. I should know better. She was going to make me out to be the bad guy even though I haven't done a single thing wrong.

"I can hardly picture this sweet girl as a troublemaker." Ms. Maria commented.

"Danielle hasn't gotten me into any trouble. If you're referring to us all getting detention, that was actually all of our faults..." Adam commented too.

"I'm sure it was my granddaughter's idea to skip in the first place. She was always in and out of the principal's office at her old school, which is why she got kicked out. Her parents could hardly handle her so they sent her to me." My grandmother lied.

The way she was lying was making me so upset but I knew I couldn't say anything about it. I had to bite my tongue as I looked away from her and stared down at the table with my arms crossed against my chest. I felt someone lightly kick my foot from underneath the table and when I looked up, I knew it was Adam. He looked at me with a questioning face but there was nothing I could tell him but he knew something was up.

"Anyways, she is doing really well in her lessons. It's amazing how well she is." Ms. Maria smiled, changing the subject slightly, "I was a little bummed I could hear her play today."

"Why couldn't you have?" my grandmother asked.

"She injured her hand." Adam's grandmother said.

"You injured your hand? Let me see." My grandmother looked at me, pretending that she didn't know my hand was burnt. I looked back at her, wondering if I was dreaming this whole thing or if this was real life.

She reached over and grabbed both of my hands, pretending she didn't know which hand she had burnt this morning. It hurt a lot when she grabbed my hands because she purposely squeezed, and I winced as I jerked my left hand away. She grabbed it right back and flipped my palm over, pretending that she was worried that I was hurt.

"I'm fine." I jerked my hand away again, "It will heal in a few days and I will be fine."

As if things couldn't have been going worse, I heard a few little beeps that sounded familiar. I remembered hearing it around Kimberly and Aisha, and this time it sounded just as loud. When I looked up at Adam, he was using his other hand to cover his communicator. I assumed that sound had just come from both of ours because he instantly tried to get us excused from the rest of our dinner. Not that I was actually eating anything anyways – I was just pushing my food around on the plate.

"Ms. Hale, can I show Danielle around the park? I promise that I will have her home before it's dark." Adam asked.

"I don't know, she's still in a lot of trouble. I think I would feel better if she just come home with me." My grandmother was fake polite to him and it made me want to smack her.

"I actually think that sounds like a wonderful idea, Adam. You can trust my grandson, Betty. You have my word that he'll have her home before dark. Maybe it would be nice for her to be around a good influence." Ms. Maria piped in.

"It's not him that I don't trust. It's her. Within two weeks of starting school here she's gotten herself suspended, and detention. I don't think it's a good idea. I don't want her to corrupt this young man." My grandmother muttered.

"This boy has a mind of his own, trust me. I'm sure they would be just fine together." Ms. Maria said again.

"I don't know..." my grandmother shook her head.
