Sometimes things happen in slow motion. Peter felt like things happened in slow motion all the time. His life was one big problem after another, and everything just felt slow.
Now, facing the bolt of lightning that was heading towards him definitely wasn't slow. He didn't have time to move out of the way, so he just sat and watched in slow motion as it slowly moved closer to him. And then it hit him.
His body tensed up before shaking, and then he just tipped over. Peter's wars were ringing for a second before all sound was gone. He felt an immeasurable amount of pain going through his body as he shook on the ground. Through his dropping eyes he saw Tony rush towards him. He then let his eyes close.
Tony has picked Peter up in the iron man suit and was heading back to the tower for medical help. Dr. Cho could save him, right? Tony held a Peter carefully, not wanting to hurt him any more. Dr. Cho was ready for them and immediately began hooking up equipment to Peter's slightly shaking body. It hurt Tony to watch.
Tony left the room as Bruce ran in. Tony watched through the glass as they tried to keep him alive. He forced himself to look away and went to go find Pepper.
He and Pepper sat in tense silence as they awaited Dr. Cho to come deliver news about his condition. It had been about an hour and Tony was onto his second coffee. Pepper just stared at the hallway leading to Peter's room. Then, they heard the door open and both jumped up immediately, anxious for the news.
"Peter is fine," Dr. Cho said but raises her hand to keep them silent, "we had to give him an arc reactor though." She then stayed silent and awaited their responses.
"But-how-he- was it the only option?" Tony asked. Helen Cho nodded and went back to Peter. Bruce then came out looking tired.
"I'm sorry, Tony, we had to save him," Bruce sighed, nervous of the possible wrath from Tony, but too tired to truly care. They stared at each other in silence and Tony mulled over the news. He touched his own arc reactor and then let his hand drop. Pepper rubbed his back to help Tony out of the shock. Suddenly he let out a small chuckle and smiled at his friend.
"I know," Tony pulled Bruce into a hug. "You had to save him."
