I looked at her as we entered the ballroom. She looked like a princess. I returned the glare that she gave me.
I heard Ben take an intake of breath and followed his gaze to Blair's new friend, Sophia Julius.
"Someone's crushing on our missions best friend," Jacob teased him. Ben's cheeks went bright red and jet averted his gaze to scowl at Jacob.
"She isn't a mission. She's a 'friend'. I don't care if you guys are planning to leave her after her healing period but I'm not. If I make a friend, they're my friend for life unless they betray me in some way," Ben said. I sighed. I had forgotten about Ben's trust thing.
After losing his parents and younger sister in a fire ,that one of his friends who he had broken his friendship off with, burnt their Manor House down, Ben had only had friends for life. If they betrayed them in any way he would hunt them down and ,most likely, kill them.
"If you want Blair as a friend, that's fine. Just make sure she's friend material first. I don't trust her," I told Ben. Something about her didn't sit right with me.
I walked over to a corner and grabbed a drink. It wasn't alcoholic, stupid school discos. I watched her as she danced with some boys. A dark feeling embedded in my gut.
"I'm gonna go dance with Blair," Jacob said, walking away before I could stop him. She was going to do something and it would hurt him. I knew it would and I wouldn't be able to help.
I sighed and drank in my sorrows.
"What should I do about Sophia, Lucas?" Ben asked me. We'd been watching both girls for a few hours now. Trying to drown in our sorrows. Ben, because he liked Sophia. Me, because I had a bad feeling about Blair.
"Ask her out," I told him. He raised his eyebrows so high that I thought they were going to disappear into his curly, brown hair.
I wouldn't normally say that but this was Ben. It was clear that Sophia made him happy.
"Tomorrow," he declared. I nodded as Jacob danced with Blair.
Nurse Axton walked into the centre of the ballroom. She wore a black evening dress and smiled. The music was cut and everyone looked at her.
"Hello! We are here to celebrate Blair Axton's arrival. She has lost both mother and twin in the last five days. So-" Nurse Axton said. I looked at Blair as she ran out of the room. Nurse Axton's words disappeared.
"Hold this," I told Ben. He took it and I ran after Blair before he could stop me.
I could her high heels and followed the sound.
"Lucas! What are you doing out here?" Headmaster Axton asked as I bumped into him. I could still hear Blair. It was faint but I could hear it.
"Bathroom, Sir," I told him. He fiddled with his tie until it was just right.
"Alright. Be back ASAP!" He told me, walking towards the ball room. I nodded and ran towards the left corridor from the grand staircase.
I ran upstairs and followed the signs to Headmaster Axton's office. I could hear the sound of glass coming from Headmaster Axton's office. Oh god!
I heard a draw opening and the glass rattling.
I frowned as the door to Headmaster Axton's office was open. I entered to see Blair.
She was sat on the floor, frowning in the skirt of her dress. 6 bottles of alcohol surrounded her, all empty. She had the final bottle in her hand. Her hair was out of its hairstyle and it surrounded her face. Her mascara was ruined and was running down her face. She looked a mess.
She obviously didn't see me because she kept drinking or maybe she just didn't care.
"Blair?" I asked. She kept the seventh bottle in her hand and looked up at me.
"Lucas?" She asked. Her voice was raspy and slurred.
I nodded, kneeling down. I looked at the bottles and grimaced.
"What are you doing, Blair?" I asked her. She shrugged, the whiskey in my hand.
"Drowning in my sorrows. Did you know that I killed my mother and twin?" She asked me. I shook his head.
I knew that sometimes you just needed to let it all out.
"I drove without a licence and got into a crash. Bella died. The 40 year old pregnant woman in the other car died in hospital, with the unborn baby. My mother took a drug overdose when she found out. My father had enough money, so I didn't go to juvie. I'm a killer." She rambled on. She cried and cried for about an hour.
I got the empty and bottles and threw them in the bin.
I put an arm under her head and wrapped an arm under her legs so that I was holding her bridal style.
She went limp as soon as she was in my arms. I stood up and walked out of the room.
I walked to the ball room. I didn't go in, someone might see Blair and question her drunken state. Ben was still in the corner.
"Psst," I whispered. He turned his head and his mouth fell open when he saw me. He signalled to Jacob, who grabbed Sophia. Ben came over before them.
"What the hell happened?" He asked. I shook my head as Jacob and Sophia came over.
"Not here," I told them. They nodded and we walked away.
"We'll follow you to your dorm room," I told Sophia. She nodded, catching Ben's eye and blushing. It was obvious that they like each other.
We followed Sophia to her and Blair's dorm room. Luckily, we didn't bump into anyone.
"Umm...Lucas. Somethings happening," Jacob said as Blair started sobbing in my arms. She was obviously in a nightmare or memory because she didn't move her arms.
"Here we are," Sophia announced. We walked in and I lay Blair on her bed. The plaque above the bed said 'Blair', so I assumed it was hers.
"What happened?" Ben asked. I sighed, sitting at Blair's feet as Sophia took Blair's shoes off.
"When Nurse Axton got up to give a speech, Blair ran out. I followed her and bumped into the headmaster. I told him I was going to the bathroom. I followed Blair to the headmaster's office. I walked in and she was sowing a bottle of whiskey. She already drunk 6 bottles in the 15 minutes that I wasn't there. She finished the second bottle as well. Then, she told me about her sister and mother's deaths." I told them. They all took in the news before taking a deep breath.
"Her mother?" Jacob asked. I nodded." What happened?" He asked. I ran a hand through my hair before answering.
"I can't tell you that. That's Blair's story to tell." I told him. He nodded. Jacob respected privacy, we all did.
"Now, get out." Sophia shooed us. We scrambled out of the door.
"Sophia?" Ben asked. She perked up and nodded." Do you want to go to the mainland tomorrow? On a....date?" He asked her. She blushed.
"Yes," she replied, timidly. Then she closed the door.
"Yes!" Jacob shouted. Ben laughed and I slapped him on the back. Not hard. It was......it was something we did.
"Now, let's go before a stampede of girls come!" Jacob said. We heard high heels come up the stairs and looked at the window on the end of the corridor.
"Run!" Ben shouted. We ran towards the window and ,it was open, so we jumped through and Ono the canopy below.
