"Lucas! Lucas, you've got to wake up!" A voice shouted. I groaned, a bright light blinding me. I blinked my eyes a bit more before sitting up.
"Sophia?" I asked the african girl, who was in-front of me. I patted the wood of the treehouse floor with my hand. I couldn't remember a lot.
"There was a noise and your wolf came to the bottom of the treehouse. He climbed onto the bucket and someone pulled him up. There was a shot and then dizziness." I told her. She nodded. I looked down to see that I was fully clothed. When a shifter was in danger, they're clothes returned to them when they were done. They even dressed the shifter. Magic's weird..
I saw Jacob and Ben in the opposite corner. They were slumped over like I must have been.
Jacob coughed and Sophia rushed over to him. I tried to but I was still woozy.
"What the hell happened?" He rasped. I must have looked terrible because his frown deepened.
"We were sedated." Ben said, his voice dry. Sophia ran to the mini kitchen and gave us all bottles of water.
"How can you be so sure?" I asked him. I'd been alert the whole night and I hadn't known what it was.
"The dizziness. It's like a hangover. The effects of a sedative." Ben explained, getting to his feet. Sophia was over there in a second, making him lean onto her.
"So, you and Ben?" Jacob asked. Her and Ben nodded, blushing." Damn, I feel left out now. Maybe I'll try and get Ryann back."
I growled at that.
It was so weird. Ryann had such a messed up life. To learn she was adopted, a wolf shifter and to have a different name. Ryann suited her a lot more than Blair. She had the fierceness, beauty and loyalty of a Ryann.
Ryann!
I looked around for her. No! No!
"Where's Ryann?" I asked, now on my feet. Sophia looked like she was going to start crying.
"I'm sorry, Lucas," she whispered. I clutched my head. This wasn't happening. My wolf started pacing inside my head.
"Wasn't she with us?" I asked. Ben shook his head.
"Ryann's wandered off before our wolves heard that bang." Ben explained.
This.....no.
"Shit! Has anybody heard from her?" I asked them. Sophia sighed and shook her head.
"I tried texting her but she didn't read it." She told me. She came over to me and put a hand on my shoulder. I shrugged it off. I was the alpha. If a member of my pack was missing, I was responsible.
I got my phone out of my pocket and rang her.
Christina Perri's 'jar of hearts' rang in the left corner of the room. I went over and dug her phone out of her satchel.
"Shit!" I swore. I dug the phone out and showed the others. They swore as well.
"Could you use telepathy or the pack link to find her?" Jacob asked. I sighed.
"I'll try." I told him. He nodded.
Ryann? Ryann! I shouted. I was met with a wall. Not her mental wall. An actual wall.
"There's a wall that is stopping me from getting to her." I said. They all groaned.
"How will we know where she is then?" Sophia asked me. For once, I didn't have an answer. As alpha I was supposed to have all the answers.
Jacob and Ben were bristling. An alpha's emotions were directed into the pack link. If the alpha's emotions were really strong they would leak into the pack link, making the pack feel those same emotions. Just as strongly. Their alpha pair's relationship also affected them. There was no alpha pair but I was the alpha and right now I was angry, sad and scared.
I'd never been scared before. Never. Then again, I'd never lost a member of my pack before.
"You have to know!" Jacob shouted. I could feel my anger leaking through the pack link. I tried toning it down but I couldn't.
I sat down, my head in my hands. I was a terrible alpha.
I whipped my head to the door as a girl burst into the treehouse. I stood, growling. The redhead was panting. I think her name was Jordan McKenzie, she was in Ollie's pack.
"I'm so sorry." She breathed out. I frowned at Jordan's words. What was she sorry about?
"I know where she is." She said.
"Ryann?" I asked. She frowned." I mean, Blair. Blair is Ryann." I told her. She nodded.
"Yeah. I know where Ryann is. She's-" She started before I heard a bow and an arrow sailed right into her chest. I stared at the broken window.
No attacker.
I turned back to Jordan who was choking, then her eyes turned glassy and she fell backwards, missing the ladder and landing in a heap on the ground.
Damnitt!
