"So, Lucas bit me and I don't know what to do next. I'm stressed and we're going to uncle Julian's office. He'll have the answers." Blair told Jordan.
I'd been standing here for just over an hour. As soon as Blair had jumped in the shower, I had stood outside this door. My ear was pressed against the door.
Her and Jordan had been talking about when Jordan had left Blair's primary school to what happened today.
"Wow! He bit you? That's ridiculous. I hope your uncle has the answers. I've heard horror stories about stuff like this." Jordan exclaimed. Anger rolled off me. I couldn't believe that Jordan was being so insensitive. Treading lightly was the right way to go about it, not tell her some horror stories about her possible future.
"Yeah. I was thinking that we could hang out of Saturday. I'm busy the rest of this week and I'm counting down those three days." Blair said." So, are you-"
She suddenly stopped and I was on high alert. Was something wrong? Had Jordan done something to her? Was-
The door opened and Blair raised an eyebrow. I had nearly fallen into Jordan's room because of how my ear was pressed against the door. Blair turned round to her friend and smiled.
"Bodyguards?" Jordan asked. Blair nodded, chuckling.
"Yeah. Text me about Saturday," Blair told Jordan. The girls must have exchanged numbers because Blair came out of the room and shut the door.
"I can-" I started before she silenced me with a glare.
"Save the excuses. I'm not feeling well, that's it. I'm not in danger. I'm not being stalked. Not in the path of a serial killer. I'm safe," she told me, heading to her and Sophia's room. I knew she was safe but I needed her to say those words herself.
She swung open the door and everyone stood up. They looked at Blair's face and tried to not laugh. My expression and Blair's expression was enough to make anyone laugh.
"Are you okay?" Sophia asked. I knew Blair's answer so I put a hand on her arm to stop her. She sighed and nodded.
"Yeah. I'm just sick," she reassured everyone. Everyone relaxed except for Sophia. She just measured Blair from head to toe.
She put her hand on Blair's stomach, surprising us all.
"Maybe you're pregnant!" Sophia exclaimed. Everyone rose their eyebrows. That was quite a guess.
"I was only sick today. I was dating Hudson for a year and I haven't seen him in three months...." She trailed off. It all matches up but....she couldn't be.
"Let me," Jacob offered. Blair looked confused.
"Every shifter is born with a power. Jacob can heal and he can tell if someone is pregnant," I explained to Blair. I remembered a 3 year old Jacob touching my mother's swollen stomach and babbling that she was going to have a baby. The adults had been sceptical but were amazed when Maeve was born 8 months later.
"Ok. Go on, Jacob," she urged my best friend. He nodded and put his hand to her stomach. His eyes glowed Emerald green before returning to his normal sea green. He smiled at Blair.
"You're not pregnant but something's happening. Your DNA is incomplete. It's hard to explain. It's like loads of maths sums but some of the sums aren't right." He explained to her. Thank god she wasn't pregnant. Jacob was right though. What he said didn't make sense.
"So, my DNA is changing?" She asked him. He nodded and she sighed.
"Ok. We need to speak to uncle Julian. He must have some answers," she mumbled. She said it more to herself but we all heard her.
A few minutes later, we were outside Headmaster Axton's office. We'd been waiting for a while. Blair was growing restless now.
"I'm going in!" She declared. I grabbed her arm before she reached the door.
"Can't you wait a bit longer?" I asked her. She shook her head and I mentally slapped myself. How could I have missed the need and fear in her eyes? She needed to get these answers because she was scared of the whole situation.
"Actually, you're right. Let's go in," I told her. She seemed confused by that but I let her wonder. I knocked on the door before Blair barged in.
We stopped, our mouths agape.
Ronan sat on his father's desk with Charlotte on his lap. A Charlotte that he was kissing.
"Where's Uncle Julian?" Blair asked. Ronan pulled away from Charlotte, sheepish. Charlotte just glared at Blair.
"Haven't you ever heard of knocking?" She asked the black haired spitfire beside me. Blair just smiled.
"I did, Chocolate. Have you ever heard of getting off my cousins lap and my uncle's desk?" She asked Charlotte. Charlotte just glared at Blair before getting off Ronan and Headmaster Axton's desk.
"How are you, Lucas?" Charlotte asked as she passed me. I gritted my teeth.
"Fine."I answered back, curtly. She seemed taken aback at my cold response but I didn't care.
"Leave, Charlotte. No one except my cousin wants you here. Run along and let me enjoy my afternoon," Blair dismisses her. There was an undercurrent in her words and I approved it. If anyone was going to put Charlotte in her place, it was Blair.
Charlotte turned her nose up but left the room, anyway. Blair locked the door after Charlotte.
"And stay out!" She shouted. She turned back to us, smiling.
"Right, let's find uncle Julian,"'she said, brightly. A bit too brightly.
