If you are the sun

If you are the sun,
Then it must explain,
Why it always hurts to look at you,
And why the things that burn the brightest,
Always fade away.

And if you are the sun,
Then maybe I'm the moon-
One of a few,
And our paths will cross,
For a minute or two,
And I'll be captivated by you.

If you are the sun,
I'll never be enough,
Because I'm nothing compared to you,
A speck in the middle of the dark blue,
Searching for a purpose,
Something to believe it's not true.

Because if you are the sun,
And I am what I've become,
You'll watch me waste away,
Day after day,
Because nothing lasts forever,
Not love, not even you.
