"He reminded me of a tree."
Minho grabbed the back of my cream-colored shirt and dragged me out of the small hut. He yelled at the large crowd in front of the building for them to get lost. They rolled their eyes, mumbling, as they formed smaller groups and walked away.
He let go of my shirt, pushing me to the ground. I couldn't tell if that was by accident or on purpose. "Well, that was aggressive," I said as I stood up and brushed myself off.
"Why did you follow me in there?" His voice was sharp but he looked like he was holding in tears.
I shrugged my shoulders while I stared at him blankly. Not even three minutes ago he was talking to me in there like he didn't care if I was in there or not. "I thought you wouldn't care."
He ran a hand through his hair, his other hand on his hip. I didn't know if I should feel bad or not at this point. I was just confused. "Of course I would care." He huffed out. His brown eyes staring at the grass. "That's my best friend."
"Well, what happened to him?" Like lighting, his eyes flicked at mine. If looks could kill. "Sorry I was just as-"
"He accidentally got in the cow pen by the bloodhouse. A cow trampled over his leg." The bloodhouse sounded familiar from when Alby gave me the tour. It was the place where they kill the animals for Frypan to cook.
My lips pressed into a straight line. "Oh well I'm sorry but why do you care so much if I was in there or not." The fire in his eyes returned, half scaring me to death.
"He's in a fragile state." He said quietly. Well no shit, his legs broken. "Look, just don't go in there. It's not that hard." Then he straightened the leather thing across his chest before walking away from me. Well, now what was I going to do.
Part of me wanted to go back in there. Curiosity burned but I knew he probably needed space. So I decided against it.
The sun looked as though it were setting. The colors of pink and orange streaked across the sky as if someone had painted it. It was so pretty it looked unreal. The daunting thought of being trapped in a box had crept back in. Who put us here? Why? Was there a way out? Thinking of them made my head hurt. I felt as if the answers were just right there. Right at the tip of my tongue. But something was blocking it. A giant wall like the ones surrounding the glade.
It made me angry. Confused. But I didn't know what to do about it.
"So, this is the Greenie everyone's talking about." Someone said to my left. I looked over and a tall, bulky but thin at the same time, boy stood leaning against a tree. Thumbling a make-shift knife in his fingers.
"Guess so..." I said awkwardly. I didn't know this one yet.
He pushed his body off the tree and put the knife in a tool belt before walking over to me, sticking a hand out. "I'm Gally." He said kindly.
He was tall. He reminded me of a tree. Don't know why. "Y/N," I said shaking his hand.
"Remembered your name already? That's rare." I pressed my lips in a line and nodded my head as I looked at the ground. My shoes were already torn. They were torn since I came up in the box making me wonder if I was someone before all this. Again, my head started hurting at the thought. "Why aren't you at the kitchen? It's dinner."
"Oh, I didn't know," I responded again. "I'm kinda new here remember? Nobody tells me shit yet."
This made him start laughing. "Yeah, I understand." He caught his breath before a warm smile stayed on his face. "I'll take you. Come on."
