Chapter 22

Ski

"Faster!" Coach started to yell. We were at the frozen lake for hockey practice, it was nice to get out for a little bit.

"Why are we on the lake?" Les asked. Coach looked at him.

"Because the Hawks have the rink right now." Coach replied. He looked over at me. "Ski, come here." I skated over to him.

"Yeah Coach?" I asked.

"Look, we have a new player and I want you to introduce everyone to her." Coach said. I smiled.

"Great! When will we meet her?" I asked.

"Now, she should be here by now." Coach replied. I nodded.

"Mr. Bombay? Mr. Bombay?" I heard someone familiar say.

"Ah! There she is, come over here!" Coach said, waving his hands in the air. I turned around and saw a girl come onto the ice with a flannel and blue jeans. Once she came closer to me, I finally realized who it was.

"Ski, this is Courtney Jane. Courtney, this is Ski Banks." Coach introduced. I smiled.

"Courtney? What are you doing here?" I asked. She smiled back at me.

"Playin' hockey. With you." Courtney replied. I gave her a hug.

"So, you know how to play hockey, right?" Coach asked. Courtney and I faced him. Her arm still around me. She hitched her thumb in her pant pocket.

"Uh, no." Courtney replied.

"But, you know how to..."

"Figure skating." Courtney said, cutting Coach off. Coach nodded.

"Okay. Um, let's have Adam and Ski show you how to play hockey." Coach said.

"Oh, um. I have to... Uh... Practice with Connie but I think Adam will practice with Courtney." I said. I looked at Courtney. She smiled.

"Ok. Adam! Banks! Get over here!" Coach said. Adam skated over to Coach.

"Yeah, Coach?" Adam asked.

"I want you to show our newest player how to play hockey." Coach said. Adam looked over and Courtney and stared at her.

"Okay." Adam said, still staring at Courtney. Courtney looked over at me and giggled. She let go of me and started to skate with Adam.

"Does Adam like...?" Coach asked.

"Yeah." I said, nodding. Coach laughed a little.

"Okay, go practice."
