katherine is silently following severus. he is taking her to the library to explain to her what it means to be a death eater. she avoids making eye contact with any student, in fear they'd recognise her hopelessness and desperation. but most importantly, she was afraid of running into the marauders. she hadn't seen or talked to them in three days. it pained her to have done so, but she didn't think she had any other choice. but the universe seems to be against her as a familiar voice calls out for her, making her stop and turn around, severus doing the same.

"katherine! where have you been?" her heart drops as sirius gives her his extremely charming smile, but that smile disappears as he realises who she is with. instead it's replaced with both anger and worry, as he clenches his jaw. she notices the others gathering next to sirius and glaring at severus, except for lily who looks at her in confusion. "what's going?"

"have you not told them?" severus snarls, making her look down in shame and sirius looks at her in confusion. tears form in her eyes as her heart starts beating uncontrollably and she looks up. he softens as the sight of her unshed tears.

"running away from my fate was futile, because it caught back up with me." she says weakly, making sirius raise an eyebrow, not understanding what she means. "i have no other choice but to..."

"she has to become a death eater." severus finishes for her, as she hesitates too much to say it, making her wince slightly. sirius looks at her in bewilderment and slight betrayal. lily gasps and puts a hand over her mouth.

"no way. katherine would never become a death eater, willingly that is. what are you doing to her?" remus asks angrily, making katherine look at him sadly.

"she rather protect you guys than herself. it's really that simple." severus snickers, making sirius shake his head at her as he takes a step forward to her and severus straightens up.

"katherine, why didn't you tell us. we could have found a different solution. i'm supposed to be keeping you safe." sirius says and she shakes her head as she takes a step to him.

"not this time, sirius. you'll have to break that promise." she says weakly, making him look at her in despair. katherine could see the pain in his eyes and she wanted to pull him in a hug, assure him she'll be fine, but with severus right behind her, she didn't dare.

"there has to be another way, kat. we can't loose you." lily says with her own tears in her eyes and katherine turns to look at her. she smiles weakly at the red head.

"you should tell him one day." katherine says as she nods towards james, who is clueless as to what she's saying. lily giggles and nods, before she walks up to her and pulls her into a hug. katherine holds on tightly to her.

"we'll figure something out, we won't give up on you so easily." lily whispers, making katherine smile softly, before pulling away and glancing at severus, who is becoming impatient.

"i should go. take care of yourself. i'll see you guys in defense against the dark arts." katherine says, as she starts walking away with severus. sirius frowns, before turning around and pushing past his friends. james sighs as he knows that sirius would be hurting and he looks at remus, both nodding knowingly.

"let's just make sure sirius doesn't do anything stupid right now." james says and they all follow sirius.
