"hey, i brought chocolate." remus hums as he sits down next to sirius, who smiles gratefully as he takes one of the bars of chocolate. "how you feeling?"

"an absolute mess. first regulus, katherine isn't waking up and now lily and james are hiding. even though i know where they are i don't want to go there and risk revealing anything." sirius says with a sigh, before glancing at remus with a playful glare. "if you leave i will murder you."

"fortunately or unfortunately, you're stuck with me. depends on how you see it." remus says teasingly and sirius rolls his eyes playfully at him. "honestly, if i were you, i'd love my company."

"gosh, moony. you're starting to sound too much like me." sirius shakes his head disapprovingly, making remus give him a look.

"i thought you'd think that's a good thing." remus points out, and sirius is about to say something else, but someone else cuts in.

"i think i can only manage one sirius at the time." the two turn around in shock and relief at the sight of katherine looking at them in fatigue. her voice was barely above a whisper and raspy.

"katherine. hey. merlin, i'll go get a doctor." remus breaths out, before rushing out leaving sirius alone with her. katherine reaches out for him and he takes her hand as he stands up.

"harry, lily and james are they-"

"don't worry about it, darling. they're okay. they're safe." he assures her and she lets out a breath of relief, before looking at him with a sad look.

"i'm so sorry. i should have told you. i should have talked to you." katherine croaks out, making him shake his head and lean down to rest his forehead on hers.

"don't. all that matters is that you're okay." sirius hums, making her shake her head and pull away. he looks at her in confusion.

"you don't understand. i was pregnant. you were going to be a dad." she chokes up as tears form in her eyes and his heart breaks. "and... i was so stupid and selfish... and because of that you lost your child."

"no, we lost our child. and its not your fault, it's your brother's. we'll get through this okay?" he asks softly and she nods just as the doctors arrive making him step back to let them do their work. remus walks up to sirius and puts a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"everything is getting better. soon, this whole thing will be over and we can go back to being a normal happy family." remus hums as sirius takes his eyes away from her, for just a second.

"she was pregnant." he says, just barely above a whisper, before looking back at her. he watches as doctor's examine her and give her different recovery potions. "we were going to have a child. and that asshole took that away from me."

"i'm sorry. you guys don't deserve all this pain and loss. but knowing you she'll be pregnant again in seconds." remus says teasingly, making sirius look down to hide his amused smirk as he shoves remus slightly.

"you really are starting to sound too much like me. i think we've spend too much time together. time for you to get a life." sirius says and remus snickers as he shakes his head.

"listen whatever happens over the next few days, weeks, months or even years. we'll always be there for each other. and yeah, we had to make sacrifices on the way. regulus lost his life destroying one horcrux. katherine lost her child finding out peter has betrayed us and saving us. lily and james have to go in hiding to protect their family. we are losing friends to protect them and the whole wizarding world. we've suffered. and i don't know if it'll end here or later, but we'll make it through." remus says, making sirius smile at him softly.

"you should become speech writer." sirius says, making remus give him a look.

"that's all that you got from this whole- okay, i'm not surprised."
