Magical Ancestry

Hana hands the paper to Nico, "おばあさん, gave this to me."

"Wait," Nico stood up, "is she..."

"A witch?" Hana asked. "I have no idea, but if she is... "

Amy sighs, "That means both mom and dad are sorcerers..."

"I need to check something..." Hana opened a cupboard and took out an old black leather book and placed it on the coffee table.

"Is that..." Nico's eyes widens.

"Mother's spellbook." Hana nodded and flipped it open, "Ah here we go, when I received this book I made calls to Kamar-Taj and begged Strange to send me a copy of every wizards genealogy. I said that I'd bring them to the New York Sector..."

"You have the same look as mother had while she's telling me about the staff." Nico sighs, "Kinda creepy, sis."

"Be quiet," Amy frowns, "insanity might be hereditary."

"The best thing about this is..." Hana cut her finger and let drops of blood fall onto the page, "it unlocks genealogy. At first I thought it a glitch, that it showed both mom's and dad's picture when it was only supposed to show the magical people." An image of all three sisters appeared and below them was the images of Robert and Tina below was all a blur, "I normally, go to mom's side and it reveals our magical ancestry starting from Kamakura dynasty, but I never thought to look to see what dad's side may look like..." The page below the image of Robert began to unblur as it did, Hana reads with wide eyes, "Okay, so according to this passage, the magical abilities skipped a generation, dad's, but because dad married mom, a sorceress from another magical family, it somehow unlocked our abilities... Nico's uses blood magic..."

"Meaning?" Nico asked.

Hana begun to flip through the book, "Blood is needed to activate your powers, much like how the staff comes out of your chest when you bleed. I use emotional based magic, meaning my powers are based on my emotional state."

"What about Amy?" Nico asked.

Hana sighs and flips back to the page with all the images and reads, "Knowledge based magic... meaning you like Strange can predict the future..." Hana paused as she read a sentence, "Huh? That's weird."

Nico looked at the text which was in Chinese, "Why is that sentence in Chinese?"

"That's not the only weird thing," Hana admits, "it says here that Sadako's ancestor Chen Yang is from a village called Ta Lo..."

"Where is this Ta Ro?" Nico asked.

"Ta Lo." Hana corrected, "And I have no idea," Hana flipped through the book, "there's no mention of it anywhere else in this book..."

Amy sighs, "Isn't mom's birthday coming up?"

"Is it?" Hana asked.

"Yes," Nico nodded, "next week. Wait! You forgot?"

Hana smiled, "What if our birthday present is Amy?"

Nico facepalmed, "You forgot; mommy's little angel forgot mommy's birthday..."

Hana closes the book, "Do you like the idea, or what?"

"Sure," Nico nods, "I haven't bought her present yet... this saves me money..."
