"Hey!"
Oliver's suspicions proved themselves to be correct, as it took less than a minute for him to find Derek at the high school, and it looked to him that he wasn't exactly trying to be discreet.
Translation: he was choking out Jackson against the lockers.
"Dear God-" Ollie mumbled a string of profanities under his breath, immediately running over to rip the older man off of the lacrosse captain, his teeth clenched tightly together as he fumed. "Are you kidding me, what are you doing?"
"I'm looking for Scott."
"Oh my-" Oliver turned around so he could lightly push Derek back, seeing the blood that was beginning to drip from his hand onto the floor, the crimson specks sticking out like a sore thumb. He grimaced, "I thought I told you stay put-"
He was trying for a quiet, but angry, whisper, but apparently Jackson was eager to still be in the conversation. "Hey, do you get stuff from this dude, too, Sanchez?"
Oliver barely spared him a glance, "hey, do me a favor and shut the fuck up."
Harsh? Maybe. But Ollie would be damned if he let anything at all come in between him and figuring out what is wrong with him... and Jackson's rambling was beginning to get to his head.
"Wouldn't surprise me. You always hanging around with McCall and all."
"Jackson-"
"You know what they say, Sanchez, maybe it was something that your parents did-"
You could see it in his entire body language that the words had struck a nerve. His head snapped up, and his eyes narrowed. He gritted his teeth together as he made eye contact with Derek, who's face had no change of emotion on it whatsoever. He stood there for a few seconds, but Jackson's little scoff really set him off and he snapped.
He whipped around, so quickly that nobody even had time to see what was happening, and punched Jackson directly in the face.
He blames it on the adrenaline, but everyone knows that wasn't it. A sharp spike of pain shot up his hand as it made contact with the other boy's face, knocking him off balance and making his back hit the lockers with a loud bang. If people weren't already watching, they definitely were now, observing the scene like it was the most interesting thing that has ever happened in the history of the world.
