"Sorry for making you wait", Axel says sarcastically to Hayden, who is blocking our path with his sword drawn. Axel slowly changes his stance as I change mine. I secretly dig into my pocket for my throwing knife.
"How did you dodge my spatial attack?", Hayden asks calmly as he looks at us with a stare that sends shivers down my spine. Axel remains quiet as the latter continues speaking, "Nobody but Ava has managed to dodge it. Yet you, who I have no experience facing, dodged my attack with perfect precision. I observed your movements that day. Every step you took, it had a thought put into it. From that day, it has been eating me from inside. So tell me how did you dodge it?"
Axel gives him a smug smile and says, "A good magician never reveals his secrets". What about the time you were monologuing in front of the enemies? You were clearly revealing your cards there, Axel! But at the same time, he defeated them with ease. Wait! Is he being cautious of Hayden?
"Oh! I see! I guess it was rude of me to ask you such things, when I could figure this thing by myself", Hayden says as he charges at us with his sword pointing at us in the front. Axel and I get ready to dodge when suddenly he disappears from our sight. As soon as he disappeared, I felt a slight change in wind. Axel suddenly shouts, "CASSIE! YOUR THREE O'CLOCK!"
I manage to cleanly dodge a sword coming at me, as Hayden pops into existence next to me. He quickly covers his entire sword with his shadow magic and swipes at Axel, who dodges it by jumping into his shadow. Axel swiftly comes out of my shadow, engulfs his legs and hands with fire and punches Hayden. The latter blocks this with his sword, steps back and appears at some distance from us.
"So, you are a dual affinity user like me", says Hayden, then he looks at me and says, "Even you are a dual affinity user". I strengthen my legs with my essence as he's talking and after concentrating the wind in the sole of my feet, I propel forward towards him, with my knife out. He looks at me, and I soon feel the same changes in atmosphere. I shoot wind out of my free hand to change my direction and land back on the ground. Hayden and Axel look at me with surprise and the former says, "So even you can sense my spatial magic?"
"I can't help it if I detect it subconsciously", I retort back, but at the same time, I know why I was able to do that. Since the beginning of this quest, I have been feeling such changes to a point that it has started to overwhelm me. I had decided not to say anything to Axel and ignored them, but whenever my life was at the line, my sensitivity to negligible changes got stronger. I knew exactly what it was. Mom had talked about this to me. Sensory wind. An ability a wind user gains when he or she uses wind magic exponentially. It was basically a sixth sense like Axel's aura sense. A spell in order to be transmitted must travel through the atmosphere and atmosphere is my domain.
"I see. You are using Sensory Wind. I thought that wind users with high mastery over wind like Isabella only have this ability. No wonder she is so obsessed about you", says Hayden. "I guess you've gained an admirer, Cassie", Axel says. "I can't see that in positive light, Axel!", I retort back. I quickly run towards Axel as Hayden looks at us with curiosity.
"I personally don't want to capture you. You people are way too interesting", Hayden says as he readies his sword. "Then why are you after us?", Axel asks, to which he says, "Boss's orders. Personally, I don't care what that old fart wants, but I am very loyal to him. His words are my command", and while thrusting his sword forward he says, "Spatial magic: In Unumet multi". I suddenly get a sensory overload because of multiple changes in atmosphere. The blade of his sword disappears and all around us, multiple blades of the same kind come towards us at the same time. Axel pushes me out of their attack zone and they stab him in every possible part of his body. Hayden looks at him with shock and asks, "Why did you save her!? She detected them coming and she seems very much capable of dodging them herself". As Hayden's blade reappears on the hilt, the blades which were stabbing Axel disappear. Hayden was actually very much concerned about him.
