I wake up at the blare of my alarm. After stretching my stiff body, I get down from my bed and open the curtains. The sky is stupidly blue with a few heavy clouds threatening to rain. I brush my teeth and after a quick shower, I have my breakfast of boring porridge. I change my clothes to a black top and white skirt. I also make sure to carry an umbrella with me. Too bad Axel is not joining us, otherwise I would have made him carry it in his shadow. I quickly wear my boots and head out of the dorm.
After a brisk walk half-way down the hill, I reach a picturesque cottage standing beside a massive greenhouse. The cottages roof is covered with neatly trimmed grass and the window sills have pots filled with flowers, some of the species which I can't seem to recognize. Overall, it is giving the cottage an earthy vibe. I walk down the gravel path towards the main door and knock on the door with the flower-shaped brass door knocker. The door opens and I see Adrian standing with a cup in his hand.
"Hey, Cassie! Come in!" he says as he opens door wide enough for me to enter.
"Hey, Adrian! Where is Sophie?" I ask.
"She is in the greenhouse right now", he says.
"Can I go there?"
"You don't have to ask Cassie", Adrian says and I walk out towards the greenhouse. I open the door and I remind myself to breathe. No matter how many times I come here, this place never stops taking my breath away. The flowers are blooming. Even the ones which were supposed to be dead in September are blooming in full glory. Bonsais' are displaying their maturity. Bees, butterflies, ladybugs, and hummingbirds whizz around me. I see Sophie, wearing a garden apron, tenderly watering the plants. Name any plant and it is here. Unnaturally, there are also trees growing in this small place.
I must say, even with that attire, Sophie looks like a living reincarnation of Mother Nature. It would have been more convenient if her hair was green, but she still looks good with her strawberry blonde hair, her black eyes reminding me of the darkest shade of soil that nature could provide us. But the most notable thing is her bracelet. The bracelet was made up of all the vines, leaves, trees, and seeds that she was able to gather.
"Sophie!" I call her out. Sophie breaks out of her trance and as soon as she sees me, she gives a warm smile and says, "Cassie! Good to see you so early!"
"Early!? What time is it?" I ask. She removes her apron and places it on a hanger nearby and walks towards the table at the center of the greenhouse. I follow her there and I see a lot of branches and small buckets filled with seed. I also see the satchel, which she always carries during quests, on the table. She looks at the clock on the wall and says, "You are actually two hours early". I look at the clock and see it is only quarter past eight. She takes small amounts of seeds in different pouches, seals them shut, and places them in the smallest compartment of her satchel. She then takes ten branches and starts shaping them into wands.
"I must say, having your own greenhouse did make your life easy", I say as I gaze around. She gives a long sigh and says, "True! You do remember how I used to spend my money on seeds and pluck branches from nearby trees, right? Having my own greenhouse sure made it easy to procure the seeds and branches".
"I do remember that. How much and how often you used to say that you wanted a greenhouse of your own! And after I woke up from the coma, Boom! You finally did it". She gives me a huge smile and asks, "Where is Freya? I thought you guys live at the same place".
"Oh! You know her. She might be sleeping in today. I bet she will step in when we are about to leave for the school".
"No! I bet 10 Groyas that we will meet her in school".
