Dark. Everywhere I see it's dark. I can't seem to recall when and how I ended up here. All I can think of is seeing the only family I have in this world, Dragon heart. I am not ready to lose them.
" Com'on Cassie, you have been in worse scenarios than this ", I tell myself in order to calm down.
Without a second thought or a sense of direction, I begin to walk. I have no idea what this place has in store for me. Every step I take, I feel that someone is watching me. That someone has been stalking me.
Though dark, the surroundings are not entirely quiet. Other than constant ringing of my ears, I could hear familiar sounds - like the ticking of clocks and occasional beeps.
I let my instincts take over and direct me towards the source of the beeps. It seems to be a good decision because it feels like every step I leads me out of this loneliness and towards the source of the beep. My heartbeat races as I figure out, that there are two more people breathing this darkness.
" How is she doing? ", I hear a feminine voice ask.
" Same thing as usual ", I hear the reply. A male's voice. The most astonishing thing is that both the voices seem familiar.
" She will be fine. Don't worry ",says the female.
" How can I not worry Freya? ", says the male. Wait! The female is Freya... No wonder it felt familiar. I can't put a finger on who the male is though.
" I understand that you are frustrated. Believe me, I have been there. But for some reason, I am getting a good feeling that something good is going to happen ", Freya says.
Silence fills in as the male fails to reply back.
She continues, " Take care of yourself. Cassie will need you more than any of us ".
" How can you be sure of that? It's because of me she is in this state ".
" Don't blame yourself for what happened to her. No one in guild is blaming you. You did what you could in order to protect her. If Cassie was here, she would not blame you ".
" Oh yeah! It cost me my humanity and yet.... "
" Get a grip on yourself, pyro. We can't change the past. All we can do is hope for the best. I am feeling hungry right now. Do you need anything? ".
" Just get some French fries with... "
" Lots of pepper. Sheesh! I just can't understand your obsession with pepper ", she says mockingly.
" Just bring it ", he says, sounding irritated.
" Fine! ", she says and I hear a door open and close, most probably indicating that Freya's walked out.
During their conversation, she never mentioned his name. Is it Storm or Nack? None of them have pyro as a nick-name nor do they have an obsession with pepper. Also they never sound like that. Yet, his voice feels familiar.
Suddenly I feel someone holding my hand. I look around but see no one. And yet, the feeling remains.
" Don't you think you have been sleeping for too long, Cassie?".
I am in shock. Me, being wide awake in this void, am considered to be sleeping by this guy? This void is real enough. I can literally feel the darkness creeping on my skin.
Suddenly lot of hands burst out of the ground and try to get hold of me. I dodge them, trying to use my magic simultaneously. My blood drains from my system when I realise that my magic doesn't work. It's like this place is cancelling out my magic essences.
" Where is my magic when I need it the most? " frustration takes over me.
I begin to run not caring whether I am going in the right direction. I just want to get out of their reach.
The path seems endless. I keep on running. Suddenly a hand comes out and grabs my ankle. I fall down. Seeing this opportunity, lot of hands, I mean LOT OF HANDS grab me and start to dig themselves back to ground, taking me with them.
With every struggle, their grip tightens. By the time I manage to take off one hand, I get buried alive. Gradually, I am running out of air. My entire life starts to flash in front of my eyes. My parents, my abusive uncle, dragon heart, gramps, Freya, Storm, Lucia, Justin, Mariana, Nack - everyone fill the darkness in front of me. My eyes moisten up. At least I hear the voice of the mysterious yet familiar guy ringing in my ears.
" Don't you think you have been sleeping for too long? "
" Who cares? I am going to die anyway ", I think before my whole world goes white.
