"Now, sugar, will you please hand over that geezer to me?" asks the leader. But I am not in a condition to answer. A...Axel! No! He can't die! He can't! What am I supposed to do? Whom should I trust? I don't even trust myself. How am I supposed to keep Mr. Grinverr safe? This quest was supposed to be an A-rank quest, so how come it ended like this? What am I supposed to do, Axel? Don't leave me alone, please! Tears start streaming down my cheek, and my chest pains from the over-whelming turn of events. I didn't even get a chance to remember you. I didn't even get a chance to know you. I... I didn't even get a chance to say what I feel. Why? Why did you leave me?
"Hello! Down to earth, missy. I get it. Loosing someone who you are close to can be a bit sad. If you want, we can end that misery of yours. But first, please hand us that man", the leader asks politely. At that moment, I knew nothing but despair. I just don't know what to do. All that's left is to give up. Maybe I can reunite with my parents and him. Maybe I can tell Kace that his daughter is doing well. I am about to surrender when, like the water of a torrential river, a memory engulfs my brain.
*FLASH BACK*
I am the biggest coward in this world. If I can't pull off something, I totally give up. I keep trying to learn levitation but I keep on failing. I sigh and slump down beside a tree trunk.
"Having mid-day blues again, Sandra?" Axel asks, while leaning on the trunk.
"N...No!" I say, stammering. I was still not used to him calling me Sandra. But oddly, it sounded just right from his mouth. He walks up to me and sits down beside me.
"What is the problem, then?" he asks softly.
"I just can't seem to achieve levitation", I say with a huff.
"It might be because you are heavy", Axel suggests and burst out laughing. I lightly punch him in the shoulder. He says, "Sorry! Sorry! I was just kidding", while coughing out last of his laughter. Then his face turns serious within a blink of an eye. Supreme! I can never get used to his quick changes in personality.
"You were thinking of giving up, right?" he asks.
"It is tempting- not going to lie about that. But I don't want a second episode of you calling me by my full name", I say with a small chuckle.
"Tell me. How did you learn levitation before?" he asks.
"I suppose you already know that, because Freya had told me that I created most of my spells under your supervision", I say.
"But you knew about levitation before joining the guild", retorts Axel.
"I don't know, Axel. This is not something my mom taught. Dad had taught me the basics of how magic works, but mom didn't teach me about levitation. Heck, I learned it when I met Sophie during my travels. All my mom had said was, 'Trust your magic, and it will do anything for you'. But I don't even trust myself".
"Why do you say that?" asks Axel.
"Look at me, Axel. What do you see?" I ask. Axel looks at me intently, and I mentally kick myself for saying that while on the outside I can't help but blush. Talk about my stupidity!
"I see a beautiful girl, with brown hair and green eyes who is sort of well-mannered", Axel says with slight blush. If it was a normal conversation, my head would have exploded. "I am serious, Axel", I say, trying to remain unfazed.
"You really want to hear it?" he asks and for a moment I hesitate. I quickly compose myself and nod my head. Axel looks away from me, takes in a deep breath and gives out a long sigh.
