Jiyoung was born in 1992. She was 22 when she died.
Jiyoung was a stewardess and the youngest crew member onboard the MS Sewol. She lived with her widowed mother and sister. She was seen helping passengers off the sinking ship and handing out lifejackets, without a lifejacket for herself. When she was asked why she wasn't wearing a lifejacket, she responded, "I will wear one after all the passengers are saved. The crew should be the last to leave." She continued to hand out lifejackets even as the water level rose past her chest.
Her body was recovered and returned to her family. She rests at Bupyeong Seunghwawon Bongandang.
