Hyunwoo was born on the 21th of February, 1995. He was 19 when he died.
Hyunwoo was the youngest child, only having one older sister, who was intellectually disabled. He made sure that his parents knew he absolutely loved them by telling them he loved them almost daily. He worked part-time at the ferry's restaurant with his childhood friend Hyeonsu Bang. He had been planning on joining the military, but he wanted to graduate from college first.
During the sinking, Hyunwoo called his mother. ''The boat is tilting, we were told to wait..'' His voice was calm. His mother asked if he had a life jacket, but he hung up. When his body was recovered, his mother noticed a ring on his finger. She had given it to Hyunwoo when he had graduated high school. It now hangs on her necklace.
His body was recovered from the 3rd floor without a life jacket and returned to his parents. He now rests next too his best friend in Incheon Family Park.
