It was the same thing every day, but December was always an exception. Busy bodies moving around on their ever constant mission to be somewhere. They never slowed and once the holidays came around, it always seemed as if they only continued to move faster than ever before. Yoongi had never seen so many people on the streets, dressed for cold weather and dancing under the city lights. He wondered if they ever slowed down to appreciate the holidays and their families or if the holidays were just another time of the year for them - an excuse to keep going and never look back.
He feels exhausted just looking at them out on the street. Mindless beings who can't stop and take in their surroundings. They don't notice where they're going, only that they're moving forward. He turned his head away from the window, and back to his phone to mull over Jimin's text. He wondered what this surprise could be. Jimin wasn't one for surprises, that was more his forte, but he did appreciate it when Jimin went out of his way to surprise him with something.
The city rushed past in a purple and blue haze mixed with a white smokey haze thanks to the snow. Hundreds of Christmas lights lit up the houses in soft golden hues, with the occasional pop of colour, and Yoongi could remember when Jimin had begged him to drive around and look at lights with him sometime last week. They had spent hours in the neighborhood looking at the decorations before deciding to make a last minute trip to the nearest store and buy hundreds of lights themselves. Yoongi had never been one to decorate for Christmas, he thought most decorations looked tacky, but Jimin made the apartment look nice with the lights they bought.
He could remember the first time he'd been through this neighborhood - shortly after they had moved in together. Jimin had dragged him off the bus for an adventure, and after an hour of begging and a ton of kisses, they somehow ended up in another tattoo parlour. As he watched Jimin get his second tattoo, he was amazed at how he could live in one place his whole life and still discover something new. There were people to meet, places to see and secrets to discover, and discover them they would.
And now, almost a year later, they were still discovering so many new things around every corner. He wondered if they'd ever discover them all. Yoongi shook his head with a small smile.
He didn't think they would, but maybe that was the point - to leave a little mystery in the world.
He's thankful to be home, where he can finally slow down and breathe. He can't see the thousands of people hurrying down the sidewalk in search of their next adventure - just the ugly lights of their hallway. It's comforting.
Putting his key in the lock, he can hear Jimin singing softly on the other side of the door. He paused, letting the key hang in the slot as he rested his forehead against the wooden door, listening to him. He loves to listen to him sing, there's something so calming about his voice, and he's overjoyed now that he's become more comfortable with singing. He was still shy around him, but every so often he'd catch him singing to himself or to Holly. He stands there for a few minutes, and when he can hear the song in the background that Jimin was singing along to change, and finishes unlocking the door, and slipping inside.
