Dipper's Pov (takes place the next day)

"Dipper take these streamers and hang them outside." Stan handed me a pack of streamers and I headed outside. Stan was holding the annual 'Mystery Shack party' which meant all of us had been working since morning. While the party was usually fun, I was really anxious. Mabel had suggested that I ask Wirt to dance and as great as that sounds, last time I ended up fighting off a bunch of clones of myself. While I definitely had no plans to clone myself again, I couldn't help but worry that something was going to go wrong. No, don't focus on that. Just hang up the streamers like Stan told you to. I started taping some streamers to the door when something caught my eye. A faint golden light was coming from the forest. I raised an eyebrow and started walking towards the light when I heard someone call my name. "Dipper! Mr. Grunkle Stan sir told me to get you!" I chuckled at Greg's strange title for Stan and followed him back into the shack, but not before looking back at the fading light. Wonder what that's all about?

We continued decorating the Shack till there were only 20 minutes till it started, so I went upstairs and started getting ready. I was midway through brushing my hair when Mabel came into the room. "Hey bro-" she paused and narrowed her eyes at me. "Is that your fancy flannel? And are you using... hairspray?" I blushed and replied with a meek 'yes' then went back to brushing my hair. Mabel gasped and grabbed the brush from my hands. "Dipper are you okay, you never brush your hair! And why do I smell cologne?" "I-I just wanted to get a little dressed up is all." She sighed and then sat me down on my bed, and started going through my curls with a comb.

"You're doing this to impress Wirt, aren't you?" My face turned a bright shade of pink, and of course Mabel would find out. She always finds out about this kind of stuff. There was no point in hiding it anymore, and the longer I stayed quiet the more obvious it became. "Dipper, while I'm proud of you for finally taking a shower and doing your hair, you shouldn't have to change yourself just for some guy. You're already great, so don't get so hung up on impressing Wirt, m'kay?" I smiled at Mabel's encouraging words and nodded. Though they did little to soothe my worries. There was still the whole problem of asking Wirt to dance and so much could go wrong.

We could run out of things to talk about and fall into an awkward silence, the Dj could play the completely wrong music, Stan could get in the way. There was still so much to worry about and I was starting to mentally scold myself for not writing a detailed 618 step plan. "Mabel, what if I screw up like I did with everyone else? Wh-what if I fuck up and Wirt and I stop being friends?" "Well first off, don't think of your mistakes as screw ups. Think of them as fun new learning opportunities! And if Wirt stops being your friend because of your feelings then he's not worth it! Even though I doubt that is going to happen." Yeah, Mabel's right! There's nothing to be worrying about except that she's been right quite a lot lately. That's a little concerning.

Mabel finished up with my hair and I smiled and hugged her. "Thanks Mabel, but does this mean I owe you some kind of favor since you've been surprisingly helpful when it comes to my crush?" Mabel laughed and handed me the brush. "Well since you offered, do you think you could braid my hair. You're not exactly the only one who is trying to impress someone." I smirked and muttered about Mabel being a hypocrite then got to work on her hair. "This certain someone wouldn't happen to be Pacifica would it?" Mabel rolled her eyes and smirked. "No, it's her butler." We both laughed our asses off and after I finished Mabel's braid, we went downstairs.

A car pulled into the parking lot outside, which was strange because the party didn't start yet. Stan told me and Mabel to go get the door so we went and were greeted by a pleasant surprise. "SOOS! MELODY!" Mabel and I hugged our favorite handyman and his fiancé then led them inside. "I thought you two were in Portland planning your wedding. What are you two doing here?" Mabel asked. Soos hugged us and answered Mabel by saying, "we missed you doods and wanted to visit!" Melody laughed and gently elbowed Soos. "This one also heard about the party and wanted to Dj again." Soos chuckled bashfully and I told him that we would all be happy to have him be the Dj.
