I opened the door and my heart broke at the sight. She was surrounded by machines. Tubes and wires were attached to her body. She had an oxygen tube on her nose and IV lines on her hand. She's really pale and still. I sat down on the chair next to her bed and held her hand.

"I'm so sorry baby," I whispered, "I should've protected you."

I gently caressed her hand with my thumb. Without realizing, a tear dropped on her hand. I kissed her hand as more tears escaped my eyes. I wish we could just switch places so that she wouldn't have to be in pain. She did nothing to deserve this.

"I don't know if you can hear me, but I love you and our little girl so much," I cried.

"She's so lucky to have you," said Joan. I tried to force a tiny smile. Few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. I opened the door and saw two nurses.

"We're going to take Ms. Grande into the operating room," said one of the nurses. I gave her a nod and let them in. I kissed Ariana's forehead and she was wheeled into the operating room. I buried my face on my hands.

three hours later...

There was another knock on the door. I opened the door and Ariana was wheeled back in by Dr. Thompson and a nurse.

"I'll check on her in a few hours," she said before leaving.

At this point, Joan had fallen asleep. It's now nearly five in the morning. I started feeling sleepy, but I couldn't just fall asleep. What if Ariana woke up and needed me?

***

Nearly two hours passed, and the sun had rise, yet Ariana still hasn't opened her eyes. I was getting even more tired, but that would be really selfish of me to fall asleep and leave Ariana unsupervised. My anxieties were rising. I couldn't lose her or our little girl.

"Dalton, why don't you get some rest?" Joan asked me as she woke up.

"I can't," I replied, "what if she wakes up and needs me?"

"That's okay, Dalton," she said, "I'll watch her while you have some rest. I'll wake you up if she needs you."

"O-okay," I replied. I closed my eyes and eventually fell asleep, only to wake up an hour later after my anxieties started peaking again.

"Dalton, are you okay?" Joan asked, probably noticing how anxious I looked.

"I'm just really worried about her and the baby," I said.

"Okay," she said, "just know that you can always talk to me if something is bothering you, I'm like your second mom."

"Thanks Mom," I smiled a little, remembering that she wanted me to call her Mom. I checked my phone and looked at the time, 8:30. I opened my camera roll and saw a picture of me and Ariana taken yesterday. Gosh, how I missed her beautiful smile. I placed my hand on her cheek and softly caressed it. All of a sudden, I felt her cheek twitch a little.

"Baby?" I called. Her face scrunched up a little and her eyes slowly fluttered open.

Ariana's pov

I heard beeping sounds around me and my eyes slowly fluttered open. I blinked a few times to adjust to the light. My body felt really weak and I felt really dizzy.

"D-Dalton?" my voice came out hoarse.

"It's going to be alright baby, I'm here," he replied, holding my hand. I looked around and saw IV lines on my hand and machines around my body. I figured out I was at the hospital. I started to remember what happened last night. Dalton pressed a button on the side of the bed and a few minutes later, a doctor came in.

"Baby, this is Dr. Thompson," said Dalton, "she will be the one treating and monitoring you."

"Alright, Ms. Grande, I will be checking on your condition, will that be okay?" Dr. Thompson asked. I nodded.

"You can just call me Ariana," I said and she nodded.

"How are you feeling?" she asked.

"Really weak, tired, and dizzy at the same time," I responded. She nodded and gave me a check up.

"So, Ariana," she said, "you had a surgery last night because a large blood vessel broke. The good news is that you are responding really well to the surgery."

"How about my baby?" I asked, softly rubbing my stomach.

"Your baby isn't doing so well," she said, "but don't get too stressed out, it's not good for you and the baby."

My heart dropped. What if she couldn't make it? There's no way I'm losing another baby. I would never be able to heal from it.

"I'll come back in a few hours after you have your breakfast so that you can take your medicine," said Dr. Thompson before excusing herself.

"I thought I was going to lose you," Dalton said as a tear rolled down his face.

"Baby, please don't cry," I said, wiping away the tears on his face, "I'm not going anywhere."

"I love you so much baby," he smiled.

"I love you too," I replied smiling and attached my lips onto his.

"You're the toughest person I know," he said, making me smile.

"I miss that beautiful smile and that cute dimple," he smiled, tapping on my dimple.

"I'm worried about our little girl," I pouted, "I don't want to lose her."

"Baby, stay positive, okay?" Dalton said, "I'm sure she's a fighter, just like her mommy."

"Promise me you won't get too stressed out?" he asked, holding out his pinky finger. I nodded and connected my pinky with his.

"We're going to raise her together, I promise," he reassured. I smiled and kissed his lips. His positivity was all I needed right now.
