several weeks later...
"Good morning Piccolina," I smiled, waking Imogen up for school.
"No Mommy," she mumbled.
"Come on Piccolina."
"Okay," she pouted. She got out of bed and followed me to the bathroom to shower. I helped her get undressed and turned the water on.
"Your tummy's getting big," she said, pointing at my stomach.
"Yeah, the baby's coming anytime soon," I smiled, rubbing my stomach. I'm now 37 weeks pregnant. The doctor said that everything's going well, meaning I could have a home birth, unless I had to get induced. But since this baby's not too big, I could continue my pregnancy up to 40 weeks before getting induced. We had contacted the midwife about our plans with the home birth, and she said that she's gonna come when I have regular contractions.
"Mommy, the baby's kicking," she beamed, noticing the movements on my stomach. She placed her hand on my stomach and I smiled as I continued giving her a shower. I washed my hair and hers then rubbed the soap on our bodies. I let the water run on our bodies and dried ourselves. We then stepped out and got dressed.
"Careful Mommy," Imogen said when we walked down the stairs.
"Okay Piccolina," I smiled, holding my bump with one hand. Dalton had cooked breakfast for us.
"Let's eat," he smiled and we nodded, sitting on the dining table. He made french toasts with fruits for us.
"Yummy," Imogen beamed and we both smiled. We finished our breakfast and Dalton drove Imogen to school. I sat down on the couch and turned on the TV to watch Netflix. There's still about an hour until Leonel wakes up, so I decided to watch Grey's Anatomy. I selected the show and it began playing. I felt uncomfortable, so I tried laying down on my side. It's still uncomfortable. I sighed. Being 37 weeks pregnant just took my comfort away.
"Baby, I'm home," I heard Dalton's voice a few minutes later. "Are you okay baby? You look uncomfortable."
"My stomach feels heavy," I pouted. He then lifted my stomach up a little and let me breathe for a few seconds. He then gently put it down again and I placed my head on his shoulder.
"Let's just go upstairs," I said to him and he nodded, turning off the TV. He then picked me up and carried me upstairs to our bedroom.
"I need to pee," I said to him. He carried me to the bathroom and placed me on the toilet seat. I did my business and cleaned myself up. He then helped me up and we both went in bed. That's when I felt a tightness on my stomach. It was quite painful. I tried changing my position, but it didn't help at all.
"Are you okay baby?" Dalton asked, probably noticing the chance on my facial expression.
"I feel like I'm having Braxton Hicks, but changing my position does not help," I frowned.
"Are you in labor babe?" Dalton asked.
"I-I'm not sure, it doesn't feel intense enough to be labor pain, but I guess we have to wait and see," I replied and he nodded.
two hours later...
"Oh shit," I moaned as I felt a sharp pain on my stomach. The contractions must've started. Dalton rushed next to me and ran his fingers through my hair to comfort me.
"Pretty sure I'm in labor," I groaned as I felt the pain diminish.
"Want me to call your midwife to tell her that you're in labor?" he asked and I nodded. He then called the midwife and explained the situation.
"She said that you can try changing your position every once in a while to stay comfortable and make labor progress faster," he said, "she's gonna be here when your contractions are five minutes apart."
I sighed and he kissed my temple. "You're gonna pull through baby, I promise."
"Wanna change into something more comfortable?" he asked and I nodded. "Please just get me a nursing bra."
He nodded and took a nursing bra from the closet. He helped me get undressed, leaving me in my panties, and helped me put the nursing bra on. He then took a towel and placed it underneath me since my water could break anytime. He then called our families and informed them that I'm in labor. They're all on their way.
"Dada!" Leonel squealed from his room. Dalton came to him and brought him close to me.
"The baby's coming," Dalton said to him.
"How does the baby come out of your tummy?" he asked me.
"Down there," I answered and he seemed confused. "You'll understand when you're older."
I felt another contraction and squeezed Dalton's hand. I let out a groan and Leonel seemed horrified. Soon, the pain diminished and I breathed out in relief.
"Why did Mommy roar like a monster?" Leonel asked Dalton.
"Mommy's in pain because the baby's coming," Dalton answered. "Oh."
"I'll get it," Dalton said as we hear the doorbell. He went downstairs and came back up with my mom and Frankie.
"Hey sis, how are you?" he asked.
"Well, how do you think I feel?" I rolled my eyes sarcastically.
"Right," he scratched his head, "I'm sorry."
"Has your water broken yet?" my mom asked and I shook my head.
"Baby, who's gonna pick Imogen up?" I asked Dalton.
"I'll call Tori and inform her school that she's gonna pick her up," he said and I nodded. He then contacted Tori and the school.
"Fuck!" I groaned as I felt another contraction.
"Mama, bad word," Leonel reminded me.
"I'm sorry little lion, I couldn't control myself, it really hurts," I said to him as the pain diminished. "Otay Mama."
"Leonel, wanna come downstairs and play hide and seek?" Frankie asked him.
"Yes!" he beamed and they went downstairs. Thank goodness Frankie understood. More of my screaming and cursing would do nothing but traumatize him.
"It hurts," I moaned. Dalton moved my hair away from my face and tied it into a bun. I felt something pop followed by a trickle of warm liquid. My water must've broke. Dalton realized what happened and cleaned up the mess with my mom. This is gonna be a long day.
