Don't Turn Green

"So, did you like it?"

"Tash," I sighed, "You literally asked me that ereyesterday, and my answer is still the same. Its a bit too expensive for my taste."

I was referring to the very awesome, yet very costly looking leather jacket, Natasha had gifted me the day before yesterday. The material was soft, dreamlike, and it made me look badass, yet I felt guilty at having to accept it. As much as I liked receiving presents, it also made me feel indebted to the person giving it to me. And the jacket being way out of my affordability range, it was worse.

Natasha's soft chuckling pulled me out of my reverie.

"Ereyesterday? Aylin, no one uses that anymore."

I huffed jokingly. "I just discovered the word, okay? Let me use it. It makes me sound cool."

"No, it makes you sound old and obsolete." Then as an afterthought, she added. "Like Captain America."

"Hey!" I gasped and was surprised to find the same exclamation come through the other side.

"Wait..."I trailed. "Tash, are you with Steve?"

"Yes, we are on a mission. We're waiting for the guy I kicked off the roof to be flown up again." She stated casually as if it was an everyday thing to do. "Do you wanna talk to him?"

"Hmm, did the guy deserve it?" I asked in the same tone, ignoring the last part.

"Yeah, he did." Amusement laced her voice. "But don't worry, he's still in one-piece."

I smiled, even though she couldn't see me. "I knew that already."

"Alright, I got to go before Steve starts yelling at me. I'll talk to you later." She said after a short pause.

"Sure. Take care."

I hung up, mind running a million miles a minute.

Was it me or did she sound kinda weird? Distant, somehow. And a bit too... nonchalant.
Almost like she was trying to hide something.....

Or maybe it's just the Sherlock Holmes books you read.

I shook my head.
Whatever the matter was- if there even was one- if she didn't want to tell me, I couldn't and wouldn't force her.

Shrugging to myself, I brushed the thoughts away, pocketing the phone as I began the walk to my room.
I was just about to open the door, when I was interrupted.

"Miss. Salvatore." JARVIS called out, his usual calm voice somehow sounding strained.

"What's up, J?"

"You're needed in Dr. Banner's room immediately."

My gut twisted and I found myself hurrying back the way I'd come from even before I asked the question.

"What has happened?"

"Mr. Stark had asked me to inform him or Miss. Potts in case Dr. Banner's pulse rate ever displayed signs of increasing. But they both seem to be unreachable as of the moment. That is wh-"

"I got it." I cut in, quickly stepping out of the elevator on the new floor.

I couldn't even remember getting in.

"Please hurry." The A.I prompted.

Shit. It must be bad.

"Which one is his?" I panted, heart thundering in my chest.

"The one on your left."

I ran again, not wasting time admiring the interiors, though I wanted to.
