When I woke up the next morning, I was late. Terribly late.
It was already 11 am, and I was supposed to be at work an hour ago."For God sakes!" I cursed as I saw the time. "Aylin, you idiot!"
In a blur of movement, I brushed and showered and dressed, grabbing my keys and locking the door behind me before rushing down the stairs.
Of course, luck was not on my side that day, and I slipped off the last few steps and landed in a heap at the bottom, effectively bonking my head.
I groaned in pain, rubbing my hairline, as I felt the area already beginning to swell.
"Oh great!"
Slowly, I got up, head spinning dangerously fast as my sight blackened for a few moments before recovering.
I blinked a few times before my current ordeal hit me and I shot up again, ignoring the dizziness.
"Ughh, I don't have time for this." I told myself, rushing to my motorbike and putting one leg over it as I revved the engine.
The next moment, I was gone with the wind.
.
I walked into the elevator with an incredibly sour mood.
In my hurry to get here, I had forgotten to wear my damn helmet and as a result, I earned myself a traffic ticket.
I think it was safe to say that I was having an absolutely.horrible.day!"Take me to Mr. Stark, please." I grumbled, recalling that Dr. Banner had done the same thing yesterday.
"Of course, Miss. Salvatore." Came the A.I's smooth voice and a tiny smirk quirked the corner of my lips upon hearing the title I had been addressed with.
Miss. Salvatore, huh? Niceee.
The doors opened onto a different floor than before and I stepped out into the vast space, once again being blown away by the sheer awesomeness of the place. Before I could get carried away by its marvel and splendour, I shook my head, reminding myself of my purpose and walked onward.
Soon enough, a few feet later I came upon an enormous laboratory.
The marble counters were set up with all kinds of beakers and test tubes and various other high-tech equipment that I had absolutely no idea about. In the middle of the lab, sat Tony and Dr. Banner on black couches, seemingly into a conversation.
I hesitated at the entrance, wondering whether or not to interrupt the duo when Tony began talking.
"A famous man once said, 'we create our own demons'." He said in a dramatically solemn way and I paused, listening.
"Who said that? What does that even mean? Doesn't matter. I said it because he said it. So now he's famous and it's basically being said by two well-known guys."
I resisted the urge to scoff, instead resorting to roll my eyes in silence, as I leaned against the wall. It looked like he was telling a story and though I didn't want to eavesdrop, I wanted to know where this was going.
Excuses, excuses.
"I don't.....uh" He trailed off with a groan before letting out a sigh. "I'm gonna start again."
And the next hour, I spent quietly listening in as he narrated his tale.
If I said that I didn't care at all about what he was speaking, it would be a bald-faced lie.
I was hooked. Totally, completely hooked.
Tony had a such a unique way of telling the story that it felt real. Some parts of it were amazing, some were sad and he conveyed it all so perfectly through his words that I found myself awe-struck and jaw-dropped.
