"Calypso?"
I jerked up with a yelp, eyes flinging open and I found myself staring into a good-looking face of a blond male, his blue eyes tired and worried.
Looking past him, I saw the fight was still going on. Thor's hammer crackled with electricity as he swung it around and aliens were still flying everywhere.
I brought my eyes back to the man kneeling in front of me. My gaze traveled down as I took notice of his outfit, and I soon recognized him without the mask covering his upper face.
"Captain?"
Holy damn...he's pretty.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
I straightened, pursing my lips at the pain that shot through me.
"Perfectly, Cap. What's up?" My voice came out nonchalant and he raised an eyebrow.
"You sure?"
I stuck out a thumbs up, throwing him a lopsided grin.
"Just decided to take a short nap to revitalize, rejuvenate and re-energize. Now that I'm restored, I'm ready to take on the world." I spoke, fake enthusiasm lacing my tone as I put all my vocabulary in that one sentence.
Before he could respond to my cheekiness, Natasha's voice broke in over the ear device.
"I can close it."
I frowned in confusion as the Captain stood up.
"Can anybody copy? I can shut the portal down."
A grin split my face.
"Do it." Cap ordered.
"No, wait!"
The protest from Tony had the grin dropping as fast as it came.
Me and Cap exchanged a glance, before he spoke, voice tinged with bafflement.
"Stark, these things are still coming.""I got a nuke coming in that's gonna blow in less than a minute." My eyes widened in terror.
"And I know just where to put it.""What?" I screeched without thinking, jaw dropping as the implication behind that struck me.
"Stark, you know that's a one-way trip." The Captain spoke in a solemn tone but Tony didn't respond.
A second later we watched him appear into view, holding up a missile over him as he flew above us. My heart stuck in my throat, watching him alter its course and head straight for the gaping hole in the sky.
"Tin Man, you better come back." I said, barely above a whisper.
I didn't know if he heard me or not, but I added. "I still have that ride I'm expecting from you."I barely knew him.
Hell, I barely knew anybody here at all. But if there was a chance he wasn't able to make it, I didn't want him to think he was alone. I wanted him to know that we were rooting for him.An almost desperate chuckle sounded from the other side. "I told you before, it's not happening again."
With that he disappeared into the portal.
A moment later the aliens around twitched and fell. The ships above us shuddered, losing momentum and a huge explosion sounded from above. I turned my attention to the sky, chest tightening as an orange smoke cloud approached through the other end.
Thor and Cap exchanged a look, before the latter held up a hand to his ear. "Close it."
I sucked in a sharp breath at the order. Almost immediately, the blue light was cut off and the portal started shrinking.
